I believe, although I might be wrong, that cants are Cantilevers, or the little triangular doohickies that convert vertical movement of the suspension to a horizontal shock.
I would suppose that by changing hte geometry of the cants you can increase/decrease the amount of suspension travel on your truck, and gain travel longer than your shocks would allow.

I suppose that this would have a knock on effect on the perceved spring rate, but other than that I cant see any disadvantages...

^all of the above is an educated guess.... I am just curious what the disadvantages of cants might be now....

I don't know of any... I think it would be more of a positive thing... unless you get too much force on it and it you warp it or something like that.... It all depends on angles I guess, if you aren't good at math, don't use 'em unless you have someone who is pretty good at it.... I know I'm not.... (I'm 15 and I got a 69.8% in my Geometry Class)

I'm pretty sure the only dissadvantage is you loose some scale points

i think they can give you a lot more travel but they can add quite a bit of slop unless you have decent bearings in them. i would use savage shocks instead.
