What are you talking about banishment? A problem with the type certificate?

Status: offline 		hmm. by the look of the landing gear I have to say it is in the mooney family of aircraft. easily distinguished by the absence of conventional oleo struts.
edit: when i posted the post above mine wasnt there, so i didnt get a clue from that post.

Status: offline 		Porsche is "buying" all of them back. Actually they are reimbursing the owners something like $35,000 for an engine swap. ( Continental 550?) Mod Works in Punta Gorda Fl is doing lots of them. I thought this was a nice example of a soon to be extinct bird,,, note, look at the "N" number.

Status: offline 		Now isn,t that interesting. Wonder if the reason was for a newly discoverd flaw or just the desire to get out from under the liability vail since it was a failure in the market place and so few were produced.

Cessna had a similar problem back in the late sixties with their newly developed front engined helicopter the Cessna CH-1 Skyhook. Poor sales and about thirty units they decided to get out of the rotor business and bought them all back to be cut up, this to avoid future liability.

Liability I presume. Plus, I bet it is prohibitively expensive to support a 'small' number of specialty engines.

Status: offline 		The problem with the porsche engines is that only an A&P certified to work on the porsche engines could work on them. They had to be specially trained by porsche. A regular A&P like me could only do airframe work, nothing with the engine. As a matter of fact, I don't even think I could do an oil change on one.

The story with the beech starship is that there were a lot of specialty parts put on board that were specific only to that aircraft. With the limited number of those aircraft that were produced, it just wasn't finacially feasible to the various avionics and parts companies to keep a production run of parts for that aircraft. Basically beech recalled the aircraft due to a lack of support for it. Too bad though, it was a nice plane.

Status: offline 		i am sorry, i shouldn't say they "recalled" the starhips. They offered a generous buyback offer to all the current owners. as of last summer i know there were 10 out there still flying, i havent heard anythig on them lately in my AMT magazine though.
