I'll throw my Shoestring up against any of the other two with similar engines. I would imagine that the powerplant/prop combo is going to dictate the winner. I clocked 112mph at 250msl in a dead level run. Not bad for a 7lb airplane all up. OS61FX swinging 12x8MA.

I agree that the hottest engine/prop would rule, so ya gotta have some limits

What about up to a 91 sport 2-stroke for one class (stock, unmodified)

And a second class--unlimited (any mods allowed, 91 2-stroke, 120 4-stroke)

Sound Interesting?

I'm planning on "stuffing" my Y.S. 120 in the 'lil tony. I think it'll move pertty good. I'm gonna have to beef up some of the weaker spots though.

YS 120?

Wouldn't require a lot of thinking--try and get some radar or GPS readings and let us know how fast she is

I'm going to build a Lil' Toni for my OS 120 III pump... I tached it with a 14 x 14 APC at 10,800 rpms. On my Thrust calculator that would be 143 mph!!! I can't wait....

Check out this link for a complete set of rules for Formula One / Goodyear racers
Both the Shoestring adn the Toni are legal.

Full size, the Rare Bear would eat up the Little Toni and Shoestring!!

Is there much full size Formula 1 anymore? Probably been hitting all the wrong web sites - there's an awful lot about Unlimiteds out there.

Let's see, 3000+ hp VS. 135 hp. However, if I set up the race course, I could rig it where the Bear wouldn't stand a chance. The full size F1's race on a three mile course, while the unlimited are on a 19 mile course. Nothing prepares you for the sound of the unlimited planes going by at 500 MPH. However seeing a F1 go by at 250 on such a small engine is pretty impressive too.

I just finished installing a YS 110 on my shoestring. It ran good with the Satio but it was junk and craped out... No its got a New YS...

My little tony has a Jett F.I.R.E. on it.. Should run fast. Swing a 9x9 20,000 unloaded.

I recently finished a Lil Tony with a YS 110. I'm running the YS header and a 12 x 10 prop and Powermaster 20/20. I radared at 144 mph level flight. Great flying plane and hot on landing. I've also got a Shoestring with a Rossi 60. Radared at 118. Fun to fly but no comp to the Tony. 468hotrod - that engine is wrong for the Tony. I've got that on a Cermark Pitts where its perfect for a work horse. Its not a race engine. Its too large for the cowling and too heavy for the plane.

Hey Harvey,

I ran your numbers on my thrust calculator and your YS110 would have to turn 15,200 rpm's with a 12 x 10 prop to run 144 mph. I have a YS110 and it will not turn 15,000 rpm's with ANY prop. That motor is only good for 12,000 max... I agree the OS120 is heavy. Probably 4-5 ounces heavier than the YS110. But I am not trying to turn high rpm's just need the torque to turn the higher pitch props. My bud has a pitch meter and we are going to re-pitch a 13 inch prop to a 13 x 16 to try it. This setup just needs a lot of brute strength to hit 10,000 rpm's... Just a different approach to speed than the high rpm 2-strokes... We'll see how it goes... I am using my YS110 in a Funtana 90 right now.

Ray

Ray -- Let me know how your prop gig works. I know I'm revving the motor to death and really don't expect it to live to long anyway. Harvey

What size Jett? Did you run the header through the fuse? Which pipe are you using? Please post a pic of your installation.

I'm just about to fit a soon-to-arrive Jett .90L (side exhaust) to mine but I'm keen to see a good FIRE installation all the same. I have a new circa 1980 OS VF .61 FIRE sitting in a drawer as an alternative powerplant.

Thanks in advance

When anyone gets a side exhaust install in a Toni done..... I'd like to see some pictures too!

I sorta have a layout for the rear exhaust. Going to help out a friend with that this weekend hopefully. We shall see how that works
