Hi, I Am from Paraguay and I am new in this passionate hobby and practice it for 5 months. I already constructed my first two Models and I like much this Hobby, but, I have problems with my wife, because I dedicate myself in the house to construct , and , once a week from 15:00 HS. to 18:00HS. I am out of the house to be going to fly. How can I make understand to my wife that this Hobby is the most healthily Hobby for the husband? Sorry for my English.

Suggestions:
1) Get your wife involved in some part of the building process. That works for a buddy of mine.
2) Ask your wife if she would rather you go out and drink beer with your buddies.
3) Ask her if she would rather you chase girls than build model aircraft.
4) Show her the same passion you have for your models

I wish I could help! It seems that this is a problem faced by most married people that fly R/C (I'm not married yet thank God). I do think that both the husband and wife should have certain periods of time where they are away from their partner. Also, if you have kids, you can take them with you and call it "bonding time". I'm pretty sure that some of the more experienced flyers on this site can give you some great advice.

Yes, I run the vacuum cleaner, dish washer, washer/dryer, microwave oven , etc…etc.

I wish I can give you a good advice, but unfortunately, I can not. Whatever you do, just make sure the war dept .(sorry I mean wife) supports it.

...AKA CFO. I can't buy anything without first submitting a request chit and routing it through the proper channels.

Before of this hobby, I was playing Tennis 3 times a Week and she didn`t said anything. Now she protests that I taking to much time in this hobby. I want to have more time for this hobby, but she is going to lead me to the divorce. Thank you ME 262 for you suggestion. I will see what to do.

Your best bet is to get your better half involved in this glorious hobby - this is what I did. My wife puts these planes together better than me and she comes out to the field every weekend. She doesn't want to fly or anything and just enjoys the banter that goes on at the club - and she loves the crashes just as much as everyone else! She even cried when my trainer (RIP) went **** up!

Getting her involved in the hobby is great advise and you might suggest her also getting a hobby. Most of the time they are just angry because you have a hobby and they do not. Chase

Saturday is my fly day and Sunday is wife day, it works kinda of
ok for me. The story of its better than some of the alteratives doesn't seem to get much satisfaction, you just have to give them
some quality time.

Don't try to "make her understand". Think about it from her perspective: a grown man spending hours upon hours and gobs of your kids' college tuition money on toy airplanes. Which part of this madness/obsession do you really expect her to understand?

I just admit to my wife that I'm still a little boy at heart, the only difference is that my toys are more expensive these days. Getting the wife involve in the hobby would be great, but not all wives will take the bait.

I ask my wife's opinion on such things as color and trim scheme. I let her have free reign on decorating the home, why not let her have a say in how my planes look? This really help give her an emitional stake in my models and be more sympathetic toward my spending time making the plane look as pretty as she suggested.

And, no, my planes don't have pink poka dots and red hearts all over. She has better taste than that.

Most important of all, you've got to have some give and take. If you expect her to understand your "needs", it's only fair that you expend equal effort tending to hers.

My wife has soloed, but took 6 months off and now I have to wean her from the buddy cord again. She's a competent trainer flyer, but wants to run before she can walk.

She limits my spending to what I really need (fortunately) so I never run out of projects for both of us. Right now she has 5 planes and I have two.

Once she tried flying (with another club member) for a couple of hours, she got hooked - might be another avenue to look at.

I'm helping her again, but I wouldn't recommend it. I expect more out of her than someone else would, so I'm not the best instructor for her.

I normally work at odd hours ie when everyone ( kids and wife ) go off to sleep. Or i need to pick a time when they are busy at their chores.
In case of flight time , it is normally on saturday. Or a weekday when i take off a bit early and skip my gym routine.

Tattoo I grew up in Wichita and I believe, if I remember correctly, that if your wife smokes you in combat that it is legal grounds for divorce without you losing all your stuff.
