Hi,

I have placed an order for a H9 Funtana 40. Can any body recommend the right size engine for this plane and also whether 2 cycle or 4 cycle preferences for 3D? Appreciate any help before I commit on buying the right engine.

Thanks

As far as a two stroke, the Magnum .52 would be a good match. Four stroke, I'd go with a .70 sized, preferably a Saito .72. There are other options. You need to try to keep it as light as possible.

John,

Thanks for the help.

I have access to an OS70 Ultimate 4 stroke. Would that work as well as the Saito 72?

I would not go with that engine, OS 4 strokes are heavy for their power. Almost everyone here(including me) willl tell you Saito 91. GO SAITO 91!!! I have this setup I wouldn't change it for anything else. Trust me.

What would be the best possible engine in the 2 cycle type for the Funatana 3d 40 for good 3D functinality?

Thanks

OS 61 FX. Definately, I've seen a few of them and they balance perfectly with this engine. Just remember to add the tail supports dont matter the engine.

Had one with a saito 100, have another now with the new satio .82
I prefer the .82, plenty of power, better fuel economy(16 minites vs 12 with the 1.00), better throttle management for hover and low speed manuvers. Lightest engine of the bunch.
On 15% CP, turns APC 14 x 4W @ 10,300
started with a os.70 on this same plane. flew fine but not quite enough ummph to climb in a knife edge ( in knife edge the funtana needs a LOT of thrust to climb). performance between the os70 and satio 72 is almost nill unless you use 30% in the satio (the satio72 is lighter than the os though). With the .82 i can gain some altitude in knife edge if need be.
Another advantage to the using the .82 is there is no mount modification needed, bolt on and fly, the .91, 1.00 and the os .70 will require that you elongate the mounting holes in the mount or relocate the the blindnuts in the firewall.

Zonka,

What Zonker says is true. But if you are going to spend the money to buy a Saito 82, better get the 91 dont u think? The Saito 91 only requires a small mod to the engne mount which I can help you with in an email if you decide to get the saito 91.

Will the OS 61 fx 2 cycle handle the power required for Knife edge sustained and climbing if necessary?

Thx

For truly unlimited vertical go with OS 91fx, flew a buddies today makes my 61fx on mine seem like a 40. Truly the most overpowered plane I have ever flown, I think it will pull away from my 35% with DA 100. It was amazing.
