My LHS told me to run an APC 9x6 on a TT Pro 46 with a Tower muffler. I plan on using it for combat. I know that the engine will turn high 14k with an 11x6 prop, so am I asking for trouble with the 9x6?

Nope it will spin the 9x6 no problem. However it wont be much faster than a 10x6 and you will have less thrust.

Try a 9x7 or 9x8 APC. Or you can go up to a 10x7 if your not looking for all out speed. I'd stay away from the 9x6.

Many locals run the TT .40 Prop with the 9x6 and are turning rpms around 17,000.

Witht the .46 I would think you could go to the 9x7 without a problem.

Do you want outright speed out of this, or are you looking for 'pull' ? For combat I would suggest the larger diameter prop.

The engine will stay together with a 9x6, but as Dave noted..... 9x7 would be better if you want more speed and "decent" performance. Otherwise, put a 10x6 on it.

The tower muffler is ok, but unless you need something extra in the cowl, just stick with the stock muffler. As Dave noted, many race the TT40 pro with the stock muffler and an APC 9x6, and the engines turn upwards of 16,000-17,000 rpm. The TT.46 pro easily turns a 10x6 over 14,000 in stock configuration. The tower muffler might get you another 1000 rpm if you need it.

Guys,

My opinion is the 9x6 would be putting the RPM's at maximum. Nothing wrong with this, however, this is a lot for these "sport" 2 strokers to endure. I've had them let go with more prop than that.

I think I may try a 10x6 or 10x7. The tach reading I took was at 3/4 throttle. Too scared to put it on the wood. If the engine is set up really light, meaning with a small prop, will I have to richen up the high speed needle? When I tried going to full throttle, the engine would die immediately. Ended up turning the high speed needle out 2 full turns to get good smoke. Is this normal? Seems right, increased airflow into the engine. But this would show that the mix is non-linear, so to speak. I have the idle set at about 3500, wouldn't think you'd need to idle a combat plane much, since I'll kill the engine for landing. Oh, I almost forgot. I have a MA 9x7. Should I try it or toss it? Thanks a million.

Don't toss the 9-7 MA....it will work pretty good. The 9-6 will tax your
engine. You don't need all that rpm for combat....you're constantly in a
turn, and never get close to full speed. I would try a 9-8, 10-7 myself.
