I'm having a heck of a time with this brand new engine. I won't bore you with all the details right now, but the main problem is the dreaded air leak around the needle valve. I'm working that problem and will let you know what I find (either good or bad).

This post concerns the muffler. I've tried both a Bison Pitts and a Slimline. Unfortunately, I can't say what effect they're having until I get the air leak situation resolved, but I'd like to eliminate them as possible factors and install the stock muffler again. I'll need to use an extension to get this muffler out far enough from my firewall. I checked Tower's web site, and the closest I could find was the 35mm extension E-402. The muffler I have is the E-4020. Is this the right part?

I get the feeling from some posts here that the 91 FX doesn't like a Pitts style muffler. I'd like to hear your take on it with all the info you've gathered.

Thank you for your help, B-ski

Hi B-ski,have same problem, os has o ring gasket problems, bought a black set from hobby shop, about 8 bucks, that solved my problem, two other friends one with 46fx ,one with 61fx had so much air leaks they installed a different brand of needle valve assembly, I guess you pay os for a fx engine, then buy another brand of needle vale assembly to make it run,I'm sure that makes sense to os, but I,m a little disappointed with there needlevalve.

I was told (but havent tried yet) that this problem has been fixed by some club members. The remote needle valve is made from porus material. They have been coating the assembly with clear nail-polish to stop the migration of air into the fuel system.
"They" claim this solves the problem.

This may be a dumb question but I don't understand what is happening here. If I had a new engine that wasn't functioning properly I wouldn't hesitate to contact the appropriate people and get the problem resolved. I have several OS engines (smaller ones, mostly the 46fx's) and have never had a problem with them. They are exceptional engines. I know from personal experiance that there is not a nicer, more cooperative person to deal with then AMC. She has/will bend over backwards to help a customer out. They don't come any better then her.
So why are you going through all the agony/frustration/expense etc when there are other better alternatives ?.
No, I am not affiliated with any company etc. Just wondering why you guys want to torture yourselves this way.

This is my first O.S. engine and to say the least, I'm not impressed. I think that O.S. Should provide the o-ring replacement for FREE. (My local hobby shop will charge me since O.S. is charging them) I feel that AMC is just relaying information passed onto her from the technical people at O.S. Is this true?
I would like a DIFINITIVE answer to this problem with the O.S. .91 FX. I have to much money invested in my ship to have the possibility of my engine flaming out.
Muffler?
O-ring?
Prop size?
What is the REAL solution?
