Which one of these 2 chargers are more user friendly, who swears by their choice of what you bought?

And last, I can't find a 109 for sale Anywhere!

Status: offline 		I personally think the 109 is the easiest for lipos. Charges up to 9 cells, can do up to 8amps. Have no experience with the triton, but I doubt it comes close to the 109 for lipo charging, unless your planning on only doing small packs. Their hard to find for a reason.

Status: offline 		Purchased my 109 from Hobby Barn in Tuscon. No complaints at all. It auto recognizes the correct number of cells, & then does a custom discharge/charge algorithm to either discharge the pack or to charge it. So far on two different 3 cell packs, it has peaked each pack at 4.2v per cell. One thing I like is that it also tells you the voltage from your power source (I use a 12v gell cell battery as the power source), & it gives me a good reading on the state of charge of the source battery. I do not have any experience with the Triton, but I know that the 109 was $10.00 less expensive ($119.00 vs $129.00).

Status: offline 		How does the Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite or the Hobbico Quick Field DC chargers rate compared to the 109? Sounds like both the Hobbicos will do ALL types of batteries.

Also...How do you guys use the 109 in your home..do you use some kind of 12V power supply to plug into the 110 AC or do you use a separate 12V battery (ie field box battery or car battery?)

I am trying to get into electrics, so any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Status: offline 		One more question for you Lipoly experts. About how long would it take to charge a 3 cell 880Mah Lipoly battery on the 109? Do most of you take a couple extra batteries when you go out to fly or is the charge time fast enough to where one battery is sufficient?

Status: offline 		Like comparing apples to kidney stones. The 109 is a dedicated LiPoly charger capable of charging up to 9 LiPoly cells connected in series at up to 8 Amps. None of the other chargers you have mentioned can come close to charging that many, that fast.

If you have need of charging large packs, or lots of LiPolys the 109 is a great choice. The other chargers are more for general-purpose use, if you have multiple pack types to charge (e.g. NiCd NiMH LiPoly).

You'll find that most high-end chargers are 12V DC only. That's because the power supply necessary to run them at home would make the charger much larger and bulkier. Who wants to lug a brick to the field, right? At some point in your electric career you will probably want to invest in a 12V bench power supply. They're not all that expensive. Bench supplies can be purchased for as little as $20, or converted from recycled PC power supplies.

Status: offline 		I use a car battery at home and at the field. I take several packs (and planes) to the field and recharge while I fly. Because I don't discharge the batteries all the way, I can usually get a full recharge by the time I get back to that battery. If not, I just pull it off the charger and fly it with a partial recharge.

It's been 3 weeks now and I've brought back from the dead a few power tool batts too!

Lipo charging is good.

Status: offline 		In response to using the Hobbico Accu Cycle Elite for charging Lipo's rather than the Triton or Astro - Since the Accu Cyle only charges up to 2 Amps, if you stay at 2000 mA or less with your Lipo's, shouldin't that charger be sufficient? Could you charge any faster with a different charger? It's my understanding that Lipo's SHOULD only be charged at 1C, so doesn't that pretty much define your charger and charge time requirements? (ie 2000 mA battery with a 2A charger will charge it to full capacity in 1 hour of less depending on the amount of charge in the battery at the start of the charge?!?)

Also, is it necessary to discharge you Lipo's before charging them or can you pretty much just charge, fly, charge, fly, etc?

Status: offline 		hey guys, i just purchased triton and a schulze 330d, my question is, i currrently run 4s4p 10000mah packs on my heli, i guess i bought the wrong charger i should have bought the astro109 instead of the schulze, correct? since the astro will charge lipos at 8ah, versus the schulze at 5.5amps, could someone offer some advice as into the charging times from both of these chargers, or is the schulze good enough? thanks,

Status: offline 		You want to read the warnings and care instructions that come with your LiPoly batteries again. Sounds like you don't understand the basics, and that can be dangerous with such a huge pack.

LiPolys should never NEVER be charged at more than 1C. That is, one times the pack's capacity. A 10,000mAh pack should never be charged at more than 10 Amps.

To get a rough idea of how long any given pack should take to charge, divide its capacity by the charge rate you're using. At 9 Amps, a 10,000mAh pack should theoretically take a bit over an hour to charge. At 5.5 Amps, a bit over two hours. Of course, the special charging needs of LiPolys dictates that the charge rate tapers down during the charge. This means it takes about 25%-40% longer, IFF the pack is completely run down.

OUCH... Schulze makes some expensive chargers!
Does sunshine poor out and "O Fortuna" play in the back ground while your charging with this thing?!?!


Talk about a "NON USER FRIENDLY SITE". Had to stumble arround for a couple minutes untill I happened on the price list.

There must be a review sight that pits the top 4 Li-Poly chargers against eachother and measures in the cost vs. function. They do it for Motors, ESC's, Servo's, etc....

I'd drop the 2-3 bills neccessary if I knew it made a diffrence.

I went on some heli sites were they flew multiple thousands of dollars in their helis and for the most part the
More experienced pilots had Schulze or Orbit Microlander (sp)

Besides I loved (I miss it) My old built in Germany Porsche God rest that Guards Red painted car.lol

Status: offline 		I'm a park flyer that tosses my planes (NiMH & LiPoly) in the back o' my car for a couple hour flight fest with some buddies. I just ordered the Hobbico Accu Cycle Elite from Tower because of it's AC power option even though the Tritons are on sale now for 109.



When we're talking 1 hour (1C) charge times for Li-Poly cells that means most of my LiPoly charging is going to be at home not on the field. If I picked up the Triton I probably would cave in and buy a PC Power Supply which would total out to the same cost of the Elite.

I'll let you all know how it does next week.

Rotate it clockwise. You should be able to see the amp setting on the display after a few seconds. If not there is something wrong with your 109.
