Hey guys, new here. Just wanted to ask about this TF Giant Stang I just bought. Planning on slapping a 3W-50i on the front. Will this be enough power?

Sure will. A buddy flies a yellow P-47 on an old Quadra 52 and it moves out very well. No problems going over the top. Keep it under 25 pounds and it should fly great.

The 3W 50 is fast in the G/P51. Just finished this combo about a week ago. Looks good and sounds good. No problem with balance. I used the chin block to create a hatch and put both batterys in there. Only additional weight was a custom made prop nut under the spinner and balance was correct.
Only problem was the carb needles which are under the muffler and hard to adjust. I have a Pitts Style muffler totally enclosed. On the 3W 50 the carb could not be rotated to point the needles opposite the muffler.. made a hole in the side of the engine box and get at the needles this way/ John N PS will soon have pictures to post. This P51 has been done in all latex paint. This itself was a learning curve. John N

John,

so this 3W-50i's got some power eh? That's good, I just don't want the Mustang to mush or look like a gypsy moth flying through the air instead of a mustang. I'm kinda spoiled though, had the .60 size TF P-51 a year ago with a YS-120, talk about a great combo! Hopefully I'll have close to that same performance!

I have both these engines. The 3.2 has been used for 3 seasons and its working well in my YAP47. I know have a new 3w50i and right out the box have 100 rpm better than my 3.2 with the same prop. Cant wait for it to break in. Even with 3.2 my P47 is not slow and have good vertical performance.

What do you recommend for break-in, how much time or tanks?

I had a US41 in mine and it barely flew - very exciting though. Now I have re-powered it with a G62. Much better.
Good luck with yours.

I can't tell from the pic. Did you paint it or cover it? It looks very nice. I am considering building one of these with a G62 as well. How does it sound with that engine?

Jimmy

Well I can't wait, it sounds like I'll have plenty of fun along with plenty of power. Thanks for your input fellas. I'll be sure to have some pics of the "Big Beautiful Doll" here in a couple weeks.

Hi Jimmy,
In answer to your questions, the covering is Ultrakote and the Blue areas as well as the fuselage invasion stripes were painted on.
The G62 sounds good to me while turning a 22-10.
