You can get them for 15.99 here (http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID4941996DD255543-Radio-Control-5-pages-total.aspx?Page=4 ).
He carries other parts for them too. Where did you find them for 16.95? it never hurts to have more than one place to get parts. I would like to find somewhere to get any part you could ever need for this thing like servo's and motors and stuff like that!

Thanks for any info!

I saw that one demonstrated on the Do It Yourself Network's Radio Controlled Hobbies! It looks cool but it is a lot more pricey than the one I have, but they say you get what you pay for!!!!

From the actual maker of the helis. I'm having to buy new boards cuz I ruined them making a mod. The person I'm talking to is Warren. Email: Mr Warren [warren-lau@gr-exp.com]. China. He can help you get anything you want for this thing.

Yeah, I found Mr Warren independently. I assumed he was a major distributor in China and maybe he is. But I wonder if he would sell single parts for them. You think he's the manufacturer? That would be great.

On another note, my Carbon Fiber blades arrived ($51US delivered to New Zealand). They fly really well but I've already managed to break one. 8^O I've epoxied it back together but I guess it'll never be the same. Man those things are LIGHT!

As for getting the original ones for $16US, I think I'll carry on perfecting my home ones for 30 cents each in materials. They fly reasonably well especially if you take the time to taper the leading and (especially) the trailing edges and balance them. And I think this is the same material as the original black ones (styrene).

It's trickier than I thought though and I've spent, perhaps, 20 hours perfecting the technique and I still need to make them a bit stronger, I think. Sudden maneuvers can lead to blade strike in the air and that's a "tumble out of the sky" scenario.

Ah well, it IS a hobby and this sort of thing is almost as much fun as flying it..... well, not quite. 8^)

And if any of you are interested in buying a complete one, there's a guy here selling one 2nd hand at auction. BTW, the NZ dollar is worth about 66 cents US right now and the bidding is currently at $110 NZ.

I told Mr. Warren that I need a controller board and a receiver board and nothing else. He told me they cost $83 with shipping and he will ship as soon as he gets payment. They also make a BUNCH of other helicopters that they can sell you individual pieces to. I recommend them. Their customer service is GREAT!

I emailed Mr. Warren and received a reply very quickly, asking for more info, so I emailed him back with the info and so far I have emailed him back twice, but haven't heard back from him. I think I will give him til next week and email him again if I haven't heard back from him. Keep us posted as to how your rebuilding goes!!!

He has a time difference. He only responds to email while he's at work M-F from around 8AM to 6PM China time. I'm in the states, so he only responds to my emails Sunday nights to Friday morning my time. He normally stops responding around 5 in the morning GMT. Also, I think his main language is chinese, so you gotta make it easy for him to understand, using only words that you think will translate easy. No huge words I think. Great guy to do business with. He thinks I'm a company though I think.

warren52nz: judging by the quality of those blade holders you made (very good) you seem to be quite an engineer, you should treat yourslef to a new helicopter

umm the problems im hearing seem to be quite unusuall, i have a humminbird and so far all that ive had is one set of broken blades and a tail blade
ive never seen a x-rotation heli fly but ive seen a XRB lama fly, it seems stable in the hover but the duel rotor thingy seems a bit clumsy

good luck

Paris

Hahaha, I AM an engineer!

Yeah but if I got a better chopper, what would I do with all of those endless hours!

Had a really good result last night in my "10 series" blades. Actually did more flying than tinkering. Tried to improve it after that by reducing the blade curvature by 1° and it won't fly at all now. The "window" of correct curvature is incredibly small.

I've seen both fly and they look similar. I think the x-rotation style is good for learning but it won't do squat in aerobatics and radical movements of the joysticks can cause blade strike between upper and lowers (and they're turning in opposite directions so it's a major impact).

I understand that Hirobo has modified the main shaft, making it longer and changing from steel to carbon fibre. This increases the distance between upper and lower blades. Which might explain why they can use those ultra-weak styrofoam blades (that just hit each other on mine) where the upper and lower blades are closer together. Those blades don't last more than about 10 seconds on mine unless you could manage a perfect hover and keep it there.

The ones I'm making would probably survive 30 strikes, on average, before becoming unusable. At 40 cents in materials, I think I can live with that. Good thing my labor is free.

yes thats exactly the behavior im talking about. - a quick manuver - bang you see a blade tip fly off -
that realy isnt what to expect from a helicopter.
i think that having to do more maintainance than flying would put poeple off the hobby (obviously your not put off) but realy you can expect a LOT more from helis and dont let your first experience in helis be your last! yes money is an issue but if you put your time and experties into a heli like a Logo 10, Zoom 400, hummingbird pro ect you would have a realy good heli and wouldnt have to replace broken blades all the time!

yes im also kinda an engineer, thats how i can tell you must have put quite a lot of work into those copper blade grips

good luck

Yeah, well I HAVE done a lot of flying on it really. I suppose my emails make it sound like I'm a hopeless pilot but I think I picked it up quite quickly. I was hovering nose in after about an hour having never flown one before.

It's just that, instead of waiting for parts (after finally finding them), I tried to fix it myself and, although I had some remarkable success, it was never quite as good as new.

Copper mast assembly! 8^)
I may as well have made it out of lead!
Still flew though.

BTW someone else in this forum mentioned that theirs is left heavy and the battery needs to be pushed as far to the right as it will go to get the CG correct. I've noticed this too but haven't pushed the battery over yet. Mine's glued on with hot glue and a cable clamp now!!! I know... watch out for heat and Li-Po batteries!

And the rear section is a wooden skewer which holds the antenna wire.... the real tail boom ripped itself apart after a few days. And I don't use the canopy anymore... it kills lift.

I've had the whole thing apart several times. Here's a photo of inside the electronics. Also this picture of it flying with the old cable tie/cardboard tail. I was amazed to see that one of the lower blades appears to be at 90° to the other one! How could that happen???

I made a new discovery today while I was crashing my x-rotation heli! I noticed that as I was heading for the wall, and shut down the throttle (I was only 4 inches off the floor), the heli didn't shut down right away, it took about 2 seconds for the blades to start to slow down. Of course, it was too late and there goes another blade holder, first flight since I put the new pieces on. I can only guess that the reason for this is either the low quality of the electronics or the frequency (27MHz). Anyway just thought I would share this and also say that I found another place to buy parts.....www.hobbyjapan2000.com. They are in Hong Kong, but with express shipping my parts arrived in 4 days. Good luck and good flying!
