I have a YS FZ110S motor that I run on 30% CoolPower. It was running an APC 16x6 prop at 10,000 rpm backed off a couple hundred RPMs from peak. I have it on a 90 sized Showtime and hardly ever fly it at more than 3/4 throttle.

This morning I made the mistake of not letting the tank pressurize after fill up. I got about 20 feet off the ground and the engine backfired and threw the Tru-turn spinner across the field. I broke my prop on landing.

I am thinking of trying a Xoar 17x6 prop since I am getting so high of RPM's out of the APC 16x6. Has anyone tried a Xoar 17x6? I have read where the 17x4W are being used and the 16.5x5 is also a possibility. I don't want to spend the cash on a Xoar to find that it bogs the engine down too much.

I am running the 17 X 6 Xoar laminated on my YS 120FZ. This engine is comparable to the YS 110 for power. I just have 3 tanks of fuel run through it so far. I am getting 9000 rpm using 20/20 Morgan fuel. I would think that this sounds just about right once the engine in broken in.

I need some help!! I purchased a used FZ-110. It was advertised as "in good running condition." Well, I tried to run it and it will not start. All I get is gas spitting out the carb. Glow plug is good. It seems like there is little comprssion. I can easily spin the prop around by hand. I have several OS and Sasito 4-strokes, so I am not new to engines, but this is my first YS. Is there some place I can send it to be checked out? Better yet, what advice can you give me. Is low comprssion normal for this engine??
Thanks
Mike

gas out of the carb means that you have the supply line and pressure line reversed. all of my ys's have spun easy when broken in

You could have the lines on backward or you could have a stuck or gummy regulator, all of my YS engines have great compression after breakin but I have seen a few that don't, but they still run ok with good power. What your describing is almost no compression and thats a sign of a bad valve or improperly adjusted valves or a worn ring and maybe a cyl. or the dreaded airleak. Just for kicks check the valve lash, .004 for both valves. Remember when dealing with a YS there can not be any leakage thru orings or gaskets. Especially check the cyl bolts and valve cover. If all else fails send it in to Richard at the YS service center in Nevada, they do quality work at reasonable rates. If you need there # & addy post back and i'll look it up for you.
Or if your good with engines and can do the work yourself Central Hobbies.com has all the parts. Good luck let us know how you make out.

Hi all, I picked up a YS-1.10 FZ for my two meter Boxer. Initially I couldn't even start it but a buddy who is a YS magician did his magic and she now starts reliably. I've been flying it and it is perfect for this pattern plane. Only issue is when I went into a dive on idle, the motor would quit. I've played around with the regulator, so now idle seems perfect, but the motor bogs and quits when I go above half throttle. Could this be due to the regulator not going from suck to fuel injection ? I have read here that three turns out on the regulator is a good setting. I will try that. The high end typically runs 8700 RPM on 15x8 APC Sport prop.

I'm looking for some advice. I am still reading all of the info here. I know that 2000 is the right RPM on idle. But how is it that I flip flop from great high end and dead stick on low end, to great low end and NO high end.

I'm an electric guy who is giving fuel a fair shake and so far I spend full days playing with fuel settings. 11 dead sticks on 11 flights on the Boxer with some pretty exciting dead stick landings. The plane is still perfect, and I'd sure like to resolve this motor setting before that changes.

Thanks !

Vinnie

I am considering buying a YS 170 is there anything I need to consider before buying? Is this engine difficult to tune/break-in. What prop sizes should I for acrobatic flying. thanks for your help.

I have a rebuilt YS110, what is the recommended prop range for this engine(FZ110)? I have been using a 16x6 APC on it, I just had it rebuilt by YS.

Pasted from another thread..
Just got one NIB
I expected it to be the Porsche of engines available, especially when looking at the externals and finishing.
Compared to my OS 120 Surpass the casting was really rough all around, and the engine just looked cheaper and in some ways more clumsy and questionable.
It is supposed to be the one of the best out there and the price is set accordingly.I know externals mean little, and the YS 140 has a great reputation, but why the rough finish outside???
The OS Surpass looks to be much more refined at initial inspection, but the YS delivers unmatched power and increased price. Anyone else notice a rather rough finish for this reputable engine??

Have any of you tried the YS rubber mount? This is the mount that bolts directly to the back plate of some YS models. I have a YS140L, that I was thinking of using an isolation type of mount with.
I think the new Pt# is YS0002, replacing YS0001.
Is a nose ring necessary when using the YS rubber mount?
I was going to buy a Hyde mount, but figured I would look at the type that YS sells for their engines first.

I have an old JTech iso mount for my OS 120,at first the holes line up with finger tightness, this would be ideal if it bolted right up...

You may be able to contact Troy Newman at Central and ask him where to get the YS mount or a call to Richard at the YS service center might give you some answers as well.

I have a YS110dz ,bought it used, looks slightly used. Engine runs great full out, can't get it to idle well. Its take a long time from full motor for the engine to reach a safe idle speed then goes dead stick. Started with the regulator even with the top of the barrel, 1 1/2 turns out on the high end needle. 3 turns out from closed on low end. Ran three tanks through it still wont idle well not slow enough to land safely. Messed with settings until frustrated.Lots of smoke good transition from mid to high just cant get the thing to idle. Words or wisdom needed. Using YS 20 20 fuel. Os four stroke plug. Also in the event I'm not doing something wrong, and it is the motor, need to know where to send it for service and set-up, need someone who can adjust the thing.

First thing to check is the valve lash 1 MM or .004, next go over all the bolts on the engine to assure there good and snug, but do not over tighten.
Next make sure the check valve is working and installed the proper way to the vent line of the tank.

Sounds to me like either your reg has some gunk in it or diaphram is just worn out or the low speed idle circut is plugged up. I would lean towards the idle circut being plugged. When you say alot of smoke is that at idle or all the time?
BTW I don't know of a 110 DZ I think they only made the 110FZ and 110 FZ-s the S series has the reg on the pushrod tubes and some other internal upgrades to produce more power.

thanks for the reply. Is this something you could fix if I sent the engine?, also check internal parts and seals. Could you also test run and make sure I have a good idle. thanks Bill, I would rather start here then take It apart myself

Crusier, I am just guessing, but it sounds like you may have an air leak in either the air box or somewhere in the crankcase.
one thing to be sure and check is the gasket for the rocker arm cover. make sure it is not deformed and that it fits properly so that when
tightened down no air can leak in around it.

Mike,

Will a YS 110 run on 15% fuel? I know they like heli-crack, but this college dude can't afford 20-30% nitro - 10% is $32/gallon here.

Yes it will and it will run without problems.
I broke-in my first YS 1.10 on 15% then increased it to 20% then to 30% for max power. I now run my new ones on 30% right out of the box for max power and that hasn't created any problems either.

You bought an expensive YS for it's power and you can't afford to feed it?

Hi I have decided to switch to four strokes and am going with YS. From what I hear and read the YS 63 will run with a saito 82 I plan on using this in a GP Extra 300 40 size.

The other engine I look at upgrading is on a Matt Chapman 580 46 sized, I am curious is the YS FZ110S too much for a plane that weighs close to 7pds??? I have seen people put a Saito 1.0 on it. Is the 110 much more powerfull than the saito (it is only 5oz heavier). thanks

The mighty 110 is about 25% more powerful than a Saito 100. It's a powerhouse. I have a 110 on my Fusion which weighs about 7lbs 4ozs or so. It flys it great and is not too much engine. But I'm at 4800' elevation.

The 63 puts out about the same power as a Saito 82. Both are great engines.
Thanks
Barry
