If your pushrods are flexing then I suggest looking at Dave's site again. Notice that he has 1/4" balsa sticks that are most of the pushrod. There's instructions on how to do this on his site. If you run too long of a wire pushrod it WILL flex.... a LOT. Even 4-40. I use dowels for most the length in long pushrods. So use something solid for most of the length in the pushrod and you can practically eliminate all pushrod flexing and the troubles it will create.

Just trying to help.

Josh

JayParke,

Thanks for info. We were already planning on putting a couple 1/4" sticks on the push rods to keep them straight. Your pretty much screwed if your inverted, low to the ground, and you try to push the stick forward to climb out. It usually flops over and crashes

I'm running an MA 9.5x6 prop, 15% Morgan, OS 25sf, MC pipe. I've set up some dual rates and will give that a try. Let ya know how it goes.

In case any of you care to take a look, I've posted three more videos on the Jefferson City Radio Control Club website, PBF page Once you arrive at the main page of the JCRC website, click on the "Club News" link at the top of the left menu bar, then look for a photo of a green PBF in flight, click on it and it will take you to the PBF page.

These new videos show Dave performing the "Windsock Touch-&-Go" a very unique manuever that not too many planes (or pilots) can perform.

Enjoy the show!

I have been flying these little flat planes for about a year or so now and I still think they can’t be beat as far as fun goes. If you want even more fun I would recommend installing some lightweight wheels and 1/8-inch landing gear. This only adds about 5 ounces of weight and it opens up a new bag of fun. I am talking about vertical landings. You can bring the Postage Stamp (I call my version the “Postage Stamp”) in at about 30 feet above the ground and put her in a hover. You can then slowly bring it straight down and set it on the ground with the engine still running, take it off in five feet and do it again. This looks really neat and is even more fun than some of the other wild maneuvers the plane will do. I also have a tail wheel installed, but it is not steerable. It helps to keep the front of the plane from setting so high and allows the plane to roll with ease. You can also walk it on the tail wheel with the nose at a 60-degree angle down the center of the field.

So why don’t you try it with landing gear, you can always remove them if you don’t like it. Also you might want to try some wing tips. I am experimenting with different size wing tips ranging from two to five inches wide and running the length of the wing. It will give you a faster recovery rate for some of those wild maneuvers. You can install them with 10-32 nylon screws, 2-inches long. This way it only takes about 30 seconds to unplug the tips if they alter some of your favorite stunts. Dave McDonald’s site is one of the best sites around for flat plane building. You can also get more information on my site at: http://nav.to/jgosscacc and click on the “Postage Stamp”. Thanks, James Goss

I had an expierence this morning that was a hoot.

One of the guys at the field (had seen the plane here and built one), who has only flown a trainer, brought out his brand new PBF and I got a chance to do the maiden flight on it.
I was a little leary after seeing the videos, but it was not that hard after flying the glow combat planes.

I see why it is a slow flight plane. the wings will wave at you if you get going a little too fast.

I am curious, does anyone use dowels or carbon fiber rods to stiffen the wing?

Well, I will be building me one ASAP as I am ready for some combat.

Take care Jim

Here's the one Jim flew. It now has a 4mm carbon fibre spar running the full wingspan. I placed it 5 flutes from the leading edge. It was also flown with a 10x6 MA. I'll be getting a 10x4 Kavan soon. I may also loose the nose cone.

KsFlyer ; You could like I did & put two mini servos right by the tail, my control rods are 2-56 steel rods about 6 inches long, very stiff at this length. Mine don't like outside loops very well either, I don't think it's due to the rods flexing though. May just be something in the design. Who cares this is still the funnest thing I've ever owned.

Paul ; I put a bamboo skewer in the front & back of the stab , drilled through the yardstick to accommodate the skewers then applied a bead of household goop to the base as a fillet. Let me know if you need close up pics. Later, Rob

I'm thinking of going back to a 25 size engine. I have an OS35FP on mine. With the Hitec 555 and the HS81 servo's, its right around 2lbs or a little over. The 35 swinging a 10X6 prop is way to much I'm thinking of an OS 25LA or an Magnum GP25 swinging a 9X7 grish prop on my new "DR. Pepper" PBF I have those two engines just collecting dust.
