James, I had accidentally addressed my earlier reply to "Dave" instead of you. John is correct on the foam board, It's 18" square and weighs about 2oz (if I remember right) without the motor, battery or radio gear. Flies much easier than the glow versions as long as it's calm and doesn't miss the rudder too much since it doesn't have the power for sustained hovering. Also keeps me from getting into inverted flat spins at inopportune times

I thought you might like to see my PBF. I've only got 5 or 6 flights on it, so we are still getting used to eachother! I flew it last weekend and someone said it looked like a flying carpet so I had to have a geenie. The new vertical was the closest thing I had. I haven't flown it like that yet but it flew great with the standard one.

BenJammin,

That box really has class. I tried to design a genie for my Stamp, but it looked like anything but a genie. I like yours better, but I don’t know if my wife will. You will have to be careful while flying this plane with other pilots in the air because they will crash their planes while trying to watch yours go by. (grin) Keep up the good work.

Ben Jammin, 6 flights on her and you still have that APC prop?? The first day I test flew mine, I had three flights and three broken APC Props

I now use MA props and they last much longer.

Hi all,
after having great success with a foam board mini electric pizza box, I built one out of an actual Big New Yorker box. It's the lid from the box which measures 17x16 1/2 and is set up the same as my foam version with GWS gear and motor. This cardboard one is almost 1.5oz heavier than the foam version and is pretty under powered but it will fly, loop and roll with a little energy management.

I just got mine done and first flight in today. I love this thing! As I had my dad hand launch it at full throttle, I found that they are VERY touchy! I did get it to hover twice, and I have never hovered anything before! I flew it a while, and then it flipped and died. Just broke the prop, though! I have a Thunder Tiger GP .42 on it, with Airtronics gear. 10x 6 Master Airscrew nylon prop. I'll fly it again soon and report sum-more.

YLF,
Your electric Big New Yorker looks really neat!

I've got an IFO, but other than that, I don't know anything about electric planes. Maybe you can help me out here. Is your motor/prop the same as the one used on the IFO? If so, I may have to convert the IFO into a honest to goodness Flying Pizza Box like yours.

I can vouch for Ylf, it looks pretty cool. We flew it around a large gymn for a little while. We got a few looks from a college girls dance team

Yeah, I can see you want alot of props with these. The 11x4 APC I have on there now must be extra tough. I have flat spun it in twice with that prop and no damage. My first death spiral was the end of my only 10x4 MAS. Is there any secret to saving them from a flat spin? Or do you just sit back and enjoy the show?

I took her to the combat meet with me yesterday. I didn't have to use it for combat but I flew it before the meet started. Got alot of laughs!

I flew my pbf today for the first time, it didn't fly long! i had my elevator control reversed! I then realized my aileron control was correct. All my attempts to correct only reversed the problem (elevator was corrected and then the aileron would be reversed)
what do I do?? can anyone help? I'm using an Airtronics rd6000 and standard servos. I tried reversing from the radio and the servo arms, one control would be right and one wrong....

Thanks for any help!

Ryan,
I had the same situation and luckily all it takes to fix it is swapping the channels that the two servos are plugged into on the receiver. Then you can get everything right using the reversers in the Tx, then have fun.

BenJammin,
Spin and flat spin recovery techniques for the PBF are shown on my PBF web page. http://www.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/pizzabox.htm

Thanks Dave

I was beginning to think the there was no way to save it. I'll have to try to recover next time. Guess I should have read your page a little more. Laziness gets me again! :
