Status: offline 		Discovered that the local indoor electric group is flying 18" x 18" PBFs in Springfield, Mo. and doing combat some.
I Don't fly with 'em do to a condition of "Chronic Employment" but I had to smile about the PBF proliferation

A club member let me fly his at a winter fly a few weeks back and I fell in love with it. The more I thought about it the more I wanted one. This last Sunday at work I found the sign in the dumpster so I took it and built one in two days with extras that I had laying around in my shop. So it didn’t cost me a dime. Was going to fly it tonight after work but had to work late. Oh well maybe tomorrow. I'll post som picks whin i find out how.

Status: offline 		Hmmmm, I know that club member . Seriously, charlesp did a great job of flying my PBF and he also did a great job building his. It looks great! I can't wait to hear the flight report. We are supposed to have high 30's today and low winds. Also looking forward to when we can fly them together.

Status: offline 		Got my 1st flight in and what a blast. I Did some lite 3D and this thing snaped around like crazy. I havent done much 3D with a real plane so this will be great to learn on. Ill be flying this thing every chance i get. Thankx goinstraigthup for letting me fly your PBF. and btw did I tell you I blame you!!! we will fly them together for sure at the club this year. I cant wait

Flying a PBF is fun.

But flying a PBF with your buddy who also flys a PBF is LOTS more fun!

Status: offline 		Had about 8 flights today. The motor died 1 time and i thought it was done. It went straight down into the snow. lol i looked at it, nothing broke. I filled it up and went back up. I broke a prop on the next flight but that was it. By the time i was done i wes gettint about 10 feet frome me with it, and did my first Hairier. No way i would try that with one of my other planes!!! Ill have to order some new props as im using a 10x6.

my set up is OS LA40 (getting some 9x4 props soon)
rudder Hitec Hs 325
alerons Hitec HS425x2
and a micro servo for the thr.

I'd also suggest swapping out that 10x6 for a Master Airscrew 10x4 or 11x4. The 9x4 is really too small for a 40LA.

Status: offline 		Both the 10 and 11 will hover equally well.

The 11 has a slower and smoother feeling on the throttle, which makes the PBF feel more stable.

The 10 has a quick and crisp throttle response feeling, which will be more and more desirable as you get better and better at making sudden directional changes with the PBF.

Status: offline 		CharlesP and me flew our PBF's for 3 1/2 hours today!! We had 31 degrees, light snow and ZERO wind. What a total blast flying in an old pasture behind CharlesP's house. We were tree trimming, tail tapping a shed - lots of typical PBF Fun. I also flew my Mojo 25 and I flew my PBF until my RX batt was dead. Did a nice spiral into the snow when the RX batt died. He loves the 10-4 prop. What a great day!!

Status: offline 		Well, I had all the materials, servos, ect lying around as well as an OS40FP that is basically new, so I built a PBF. Its 24 wide by 23.5 long weighs 2lbs 7oz and is now my new favorite plane!! The first two flights were in insane wind of 15-20kts and it flew, but it was a huge hand full. Today I put in 3 more flights and already am comfortable enough to be trying to drag the tail on the ground in a hover. I love this thing. Super durable also as I got it into a mind boggling spin from 40ft up that I couldnt seem to recover from causing a nose straight down crash onto concrete. The only damage was a broken prop and spinner. Does anyone know how to recover from a crazy spin like that?

Status: offline 		Hi Dave: bet you never thought the PBF would last this long. My first one way back then and had an OS 25FP on it and you couldn't kill that thing. Still flying an electric one with a Blue Wonder and HXT servos from HK. Can even get it to do the Death Spiral if I nurse it into it. Hope you other guys realize it but Dave was the originator of the PBF. Much to be thankfull for.

I was very very very! happy when I flew it for the first time and I think it was one of the best days in my life. I am now very glad to see your replies here and every time I read them I feel happy . You are very kind and helpful. I am now about 45 years old but every time I fly my PBF I feel I am as young as my 12 yo son who is very interested in model airplanes too. PBF flying really makes me happy.

I saw in that 2002 posting that the disc was a little hard to fly - a possible solution on making the ele-vons/vators more slanted as on the attached  pic of the Arup - but extend it all the way from the centre to where the aileron ends. It increases the area and distance from centre. Will let you know how it goes - oh, another PBF is under constuction, this one will be scaled to take a 46 Irvine -  I just love these planes, they fly different but it is such fun. Has anybody tried to slope soar with a profiled one?
