I'm Confused.
What do i want to set this thing at to quick charge my packs.
I have a 4.8 700 on the reciever and a 9.6 700 in the transmitter.
Please help if anyone has a chart set up that a guy can imput the proper charge rates i would appreciate it.
thanks

Assuming your packs are NiCD set the both batteries to charge at .70 Amps. Just make sure you select 4-cell for the 4.8V pack and 8-cell for the 9.6V pack. .70A is = to 1C on those packs.

The instructions talk about discharging a Lipo pack and I have read in the forums that you are NEVER to discharge a lipo battery.

The manual says...
"If the proper battery type and voltage values were entered, the "Auto Smart Set" feature will have already calculated and set a safe discharge cutoff voltage for the batty pack which will be shown in the bottom line of this screen."

It goes to say that the factory default value of 0.30A (300mA) is very similar to the average currents that are drained from RC flight packs.

So if I have extra juice in my lipo packs, should I do this? Is it better for the battery or should I just wear the pack out in flight?

Thanks,
Nick

I think that is 1C or the current needed to charge the pack in one hour.

Per the Charge/Discharge Chart that came with the charger it is recommending 1.0A for a quick charge.

cobalt135,
Does the pack have two charge leads or one. If it has two leads, then I would charge each pair on a different channel. If it only has one lead, then you charge it as a 2 cell pack that is 2000maH

DO NOT CHARGE IT IN BOTH LEADS!!!
If its a Duralite then you charge it thru the yellow lead as that has the charge circuitry in it. The other lead if for output only.
The charger will see the pack as 2 cells as Its reading the voltage and doesnt have a crystal ball

andyt, good catch.
You are 100% correct.
That is the packs with the built in charge sensing circuit (right?)

I finally charged my LiPo's yesterday with the Elite. Be sure to adjust to get the correct voltage for the pack. I'm using 11.1V 3s LiPo's and I admittely used the default setting of 10.8V by accident. I thought I had the correct voltage changed, but apparently not. The accucycle offers 3.6, 7.2, and 10.8V options for LithIon cells along with 3.7, 7.4, 11.1V options for LiPo's. I should've used the setting of 11.1V but instead used 10.8. That resulted in an undercharged pack because the charger only took the pack up to 12.3V before switching to constant voltage instead of 12.6. After flying my edge I felt the batteries should've lasted a bit longer than they did. I will retry charging the packs at 11.1 and see what kind of difference it makes in terms of flight duration. I didn't time it but I think I got about 12 minutes out of my 850mah pack before.

coomarlin,
I didn't know that LiPO and LiIon had different voltages.
I want to do some test on packs already charged to see what happens.
I plan to do that this weekend and see how it handle charged packs

Miles apparently they do. A LiPo can be charged up to 4.2V per cell with constant current while a LiIon pack can be charged up to 4.1V. I just recharged one of my packs at the 11.1V (Instead of the 10.8V setting) and it took the voltage up to 12.6V (Instead of 12.3V) before switching from constant current to constant voltage. Took 1 hour and 15 minutes. Last night I ran that pack down until my 9.0V cutoff kicked in on my Phoenix 25. Today while charging it showed I put 846mah back in the pack. Considering it's a 850mah pack that is very good numbers I'd think.

Yes the yellow one has charge safe on it the other does not. I belive its reverse protected but I dont know what the charger will think of plugging both in!!!!

Has anyone else measure there power supply voltage with the charger off, on, and then charging? I would be interested in your findings.

I'd really like for someone to do some hard core tests of the Elite to truly see if it stands up to the competition. At this point, I love the features and the fact I can charge two packs simultaneously but I'm not fully convinced that it's truly peaking my batteries.

What do you have in mind?
I am checking my capacity with NiMH packs and it shows that may plane consistantly averages about 1.8amps while I am flying!

coomarlin, I need for you to validate something for me. Take a NiMH pack and set the capacity at 65% of the packs actual capacity then charge the pack. When it peaks, what is the trickle current? If this works right, the trickle current should be about 80% of the charge current.
Thanks

Do you mean to let the accucycle automatically select the trickle rate? I normally select my own, but I can try it if thats what you are talking about. Also you want it to be a NiMH or will a NiCD suffice?
