Have you purchased a unit?
I finally got my replacement after frying it.
What I found out is that the original one still worked.
It is a very robust charger.

I've been using this charger for a while now with no problems at all. It's exactly what I needed. Now I get to use it to charge Lipoly's on my Shockflyer 330S.

I am planning on getting a Shockflyer or a Raptor. Let me know how it works with Lipos!

Geistware,

I've used my Elite on my Li-Po's for my Shock Flyer. Previously, I used my Apache (www.anyrc.com) to charge them. The Apache charged my Kokam 700ma 2cell in 35-40 minutes. First attempt using the Elite took 2hrs at the default setting. I didn't get quite the run time with the first charge either. Try charging as close to the max charge rate for the cell(s) you use, for a quicker charge and possibly longer run times.

DO you know why it took longer?
Could you try it a couple of more times to see if you can figure out why?
THe first charge may be with a dead pack and the later chargers may be with a pack that has some juice in it.

With a charge rate of 1C my Elite charges my 850mah 3s Lipo's in 1 hour 12 minutes. Almost like clockwork. Those are fully drained batteries down to 3.0V/cell.

Thanks coomarlin
SO when you fly on electric, you always have a pack on charge to get more flight itme or what?

Geistware,

Charged the pack today. Took 71:54minutes and 377ma. at the 1C rate. It had been sitting in a discharged state for two weeks. Quick review: AXI 2208/34 on my Shockflyer. Kokam 700mah battery, Phoenix 10 controller. I have an extra Phoenix 10 controller if your interested that I have never used.

Did a quick check and found that at 300ma and 1.1 volt cut off, my 2700maH NiMH pack has a consistant 2550maH capacity. At 1 amp, the pack can deliver it for only 1600maH of charge.

I then tried my 1650maH pack and at 300ma and 1.1 volt cut off it shows 1500maH but at a 1 amp load, it only has 915maH of capacity. I may plan to try this with NiCads and see what happens. This is with 5 cycles and I got consistant readings from the 2nd through the 5th cycle. The first cycle always showed a higher capacity.

That pretty much jives exactly with what I stated in my above post. 1 hour 12 minutes.

Geist, I have 2 battery packs and can get about 15-20 minutes of flight per pack. I normally always rest my neck for 15-30 minutes after each flight so I always have a fresh pack available when I need it. It would be a waste fo rme to buy a 3rd pack right now because the others charge fast enough that I don't need one.

I'm seeing the same sort of thing with my Elite. I have a 1700 ma 4 cell NiCD pack on my RX, if I cycle it with my Elite, it consistantly indicates a capacity of 1430 to 1440 ma. I'm charging using all the settings that the charger figures out. I've tried reducing the charge rate by 50% so that it takes longer to charge, I've heard that this will allow the battery to store more engergy.

I was thinking of sending my packs back to my supplier thinking that they were bad.

Oddly, when I charge the 8 cell 1800 ma pack my son has for his truck, it charges to about 2100 ma.

What can I change to get more juice into my batteries?

I also figgered out that the unit does not trickle charge after a cycle, only after a peak charge.

David, what I am seeing is that I am testing the pack at my plane's equivelent load. When you test a pack, you should discharge it to 1.0 or 0.9 volts per cell at a rate of 300ma. This is comparable to how the manufacturer tested the cells. This will show a higher capacity.

After cycling my packs 5 times I see that I should get 1400mah out of a 2700maH NiMH pack with a 1 amp load. This should be equal to 1.5 hours of flying time. Today, I put 9 10 minute flights on my plane. That is 1.5 hours and my 5 cell pack read 6.15 volts. For me the charger provides a real world measure of my packs capability. I just wish it would charge two packs with a common ground.

I'm confused. Shouldn't you get 2700 out of a 2700 pack regardless of what the discharge rate is?

Has anyone tested the stated discharge rate against a meter as well as the cutoff voltage to see how well calibrated these are?
