Hi, I am planning to buy a li-po or li-ion battery. I have a few questions and hope you guys can help me out:

1. What are the different between li-po and li-ion? which one is better?
2. what I should get for my plane? I have two planes - one is using 180 type direct drive motor with 7A ESC. one is using GWS EPS350D w/ gearbox with 15A ESC and last one is using GWS EPS400 D w/gearbox with 15A ESC?
3. how much mah and voltage i should get for the batteries if I want to get a battery that can be used by all three planes?

Thanks a lot.

Jimmy

If you don't want to push the limits and fiddle the transmitter end points like me I'd buy a 2S Lipo pack, probably a 1500mA Kokams which will cover all the current demands of these three motors. You may get away with a 1200mA pack also but it would need to be rated at 15C to cope with a 400 size motor.

Lithium Ion and Lithium polymer are actually the same chemistry. The cell construction is different but for most applications they can be considered the same. Always use the charge current and voltage printed on the pack. Lithium Polymer use a caseless design where as most Li Ion cells have a metal case. Li Ion would be heavier for the same capasity cells.

PS. If you use Paypal then have a look at the PolyQuest Lipos here.
