K D Buck -> Hitec for Funtana 90 (6/22/2004 12:46:04 AM)

Mike,
Would the new 635 servos, (with proper mechanical advantage, of course), be enough to handle the new Funtana 90 for 3-D style flying? I have read reports of these servos snapping the ouptut shaft. Have you seen any proof of this, and if so, has this issue been resolved?

Thanks, KB

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (6/22/2004 10:52:03 PM)

They should be fine since the gears have much more surface area than the 5475's that we have had reports of stripping in similar applications. However, a metal geared servo would eliminate any doubt.

I actually have one of the Funtana 90's on order with a Saito 100 to go in it to test the new high torque digital Karbonite geared servos. The problem with planes such as these is that they put a lot of load on the gears due to their large control surfaces and extreme throw. Not that there is anything wrong with that! :D

Our goal is to help establish that line in the sand where the Karbonite servos are acceptable since currently there is some confusion about it. It is true that Karbonite is 4 times stronger than nylon but it is still many times weaker than metal.

I hope this helps or at least confuses you some more! :D

Mike.

Mike, what Hitec servo # do you plan to use and where?

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (6/23/2004 10:01:26 PM)

I'm going to put the new 6975HB's (144in/oz @ .10 sec) on the ailerons and elevators and the 6985HB (172in/oz@ .13 sec) on the rudder.

Ya baby! can't wait to see that one.

MPX_4000 -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (6/28/2004 3:50:16 PM)

Mike,

Are the 69xx series servos available for sale in the US yet? I would like to try a few of the 6975's and I did a web search and only found them on the Hitec site announcing the new servos. Thank you,

Ray

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (6/29/2004 12:23:16 AM)

Yes, we have shipped the 6965HB and 6975HB's so far. But not the 6985HB's yet.

Mike.

Hi Mike,
Just wanted to say that I have a Funtana 40 with a Saito 91 using the 475 hb's. Been flying the tar out of it since I got it in Feb. Those 475's are still as tight as when I got them. So far very impressed. Although the 81 on my throttle gave out already.
Eric

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/7/2004 4:33:48 PM)

Slyder- Good to hear! :)

Since the Funtana 90's were back ordered we have been testing the new 6975's in an Extreme Flight R/C Yak54 68" with a Saito 100. Just starting to put it through the ringer now and the servos are performing flawlessly. I'll have more feedback after a few more flights.

By the way... I really need to give a big thumbs up to Extreme Flight R/C on this bird. It is one of the finest, if not the finest ARF's I have ever seen. The hardware it comes with is top notch. If you're in the market for a plane in this catagory check it out. http://www.extremeflightrc.com

Slyder -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/7/2004 5:33:49 PM)

Saving my pennies already for the Yak.
If you were on a budget-lets say $50 or less per servo which Hitecs would you recomend for the Yak?
Thanks,
Eric

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/7/2004 11:31:12 PM)

Provided that our testing shows that the karbonite servos are up to the task in this bird, there is no question... the new HS-6635HB's.

I have these in my Extreme Flight Edge 540 profile and they are one of the smoothest servos I have ever used. Seriously... I was blown away by them when I first installed them. The words... "Like Butter" come to mind when I switch on this plane. :)

Mike.

Slyder -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/8/2004 2:06:49 AM)

Would you give the specs on the 6635's? I cant find them on Hitec's site. Tower lists them but no info yet.
Thanks
Eric

Where ya at Mike?

PlaneKrazee -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/19/2004 2:53:52 AM)

Mike,
Any word on the recommended servos? How did the Karbonite gears hold up?

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/19/2004 7:21:48 PM)

http://www.hitecrcd.com/Servos/hs6635hb.htm

So far we have 20+ "Extreme" flights on the Extreme Flight 68" Yak and the HS-6975HB servos are showing no signs of stress. They have perfomed flawlessly and I must say we are very impressed... Super smooth!!!

We are still waiting for the Funtana 90; I guess they are popular because they are on backorder with Horizon.

Mike.

PlaneKrazee -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/19/2004 7:25:07 PM)

Mike,

Thank you for the response.

Who has the new Karonite servos in stock? I can't find any except the little, low power one.

Regards

MikeMayberry -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/19/2004 8:51:53 PM)

They have started shipping so most shops should be able to get them now. You might also try some of the big mail order companies.

Mike.

PlaneKrazee -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/21/2004 8:41:26 PM)

Hi Mike,

Do you think the 6635 servos will handle the loads induced by the Funtana 90 ailerons?

What is the difference between the 59XX and the 69XX servos besides the HB gears?

Thanks

DTB -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (7/22/2004 8:56:12 PM)

Hi Mike, I have a Funtana S 90 with a YS 1.10FZ using a HS-85BB for throttle. I was thinking of using the HS-5475HB (76oz @ 6.0V) on the control, but after reading other threads about the Funtana S90 having flutter problems, I was thinking of using the HS-5645MG (168oz @ 6.0V). The Funtana S90 manual says use a minimum of 50oz torque servos. I personally think this is a little low with this type of control surface found on this plane. I like to do walls, blenders, inverted walls, parachutes, etc... that really stress the servo. I think Hitec makes some of the best servos around and I am sure that the HS-5475HB are great servos, but only having 76oz @6.0V concerns me with my style of flying. Certain applications need certain servos. Since flutter has been a problem already, do you think the HS-5645MG would be better since they have a ton more torque with the proper mechanical adavantage ofcourse. The HS-5645MG are a littler heavier than the HS-5475HB. I do prefer the metal gears since they resist hanger rash more.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
DTB

PlaneKrazee -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (5/24/2005 3:10:11 PM)

Ok,

Should I not use the 6635's on this plane? What was the outcome of the tests? I have 6-6635's and 2-6985's that I'm afraid to use. I can't afford to lose the plane and I can't afford to eat $450.00 either.

tohm -> RE: Hitec for Funtana 90 (5/24/2005 4:59:51 PM)

Wow! this thread is almost a year old. [:D]

Those servos should be fine on a Funtana 90.

I'm going to lock this thread. Skypilot_One if you have anymore questions on the topic, please start a new thread.
