Here is the Saito club. Saitos are the best 4-strokers out there. Post every question that you need help here. But don't post negative comments, like some people do.

foofydoo -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 1:58:24 AM)

I want to know what a saito 1.80 td twin cyclinder will be like in my 2m smaragd freestyle. I want to know all the pro and cons

A good example would be how someone posted in the YS thread "Get serious, you guys need to discover Saito. "

Get serious Cody, you need to discover YS..

NOVAflier -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 1:27:25 PM)

I have owned 3 Saito's now and will probably never buy another 4-stroke. For the weekend flyer, it is an excellent engine. I cannot tell you how many times I have watched people with "other" 4-strokes spend their Saturday fiddling with the needle valves to get their engine to run, while I prime, flip it back once and away she goes....

Only complaint I have is the feeler gage they supply...don't like it..

AcroJo -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 1:51:34 PM)

I have many Saitos and they are exceptional quality. Light and strong. Joe

ColinM -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 3:17:00 PM)

Got a Saito 72 and a 180, both stunning engines and can't think of any reason why my next engine won't be the Saito 82. But I do have a question. What's the best engine mount for the 180? Using it in a 3D plane. Any advice much appreciated.

Josey Wales -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 4:24:42 PM)

I have a 65 120 100 56 90 and a new 82..they all run great!!

Shortman -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 6:18:15 PM)

Okay, I have had 2 Saito 72s, sold one, so I bought a new one now[:D]. Last night thought, sadly I was adjusting the valves because my motor had no compression out of the box as I am getting ready to break it in. My rocker arm screw and nut part #42 broke on me[:o], it was my fault because I accidentally tried to loosen the screw before i released the nut[:@].

Where is the best place you guys for replacement parts? I found one and have them 2nd day air it to me as I need to fly this weekend.

Shahid -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 6:22:16 PM)

Whats the story on the 82? I aint heard or seen much. Sounds good though, 82 power in a 40!!!! Its almost scary. You'd think the crackase whould ave 1 mm thick walls or soemthing.

rsmokin -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 6:39:10 PM)

Have Saito 40 , 56 and 72.

Have only flown the 56 this year, about a gallon of fuel.
Can't ever seem to get the idle low enough, about 2550-2600, with a 12X6 prop.
It is very reliable , other than that. Someone said I just need more hours on it, but I thought I'd get some other opinions.

Also I broke in all 3 engines in per the book. Is that sufficient or are there other tips that arer better.

And finally , who has the best tach? I haave the Hobbico and it's not very consistant.

Thanks

Rich

Goinstraightup -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 6:49:00 PM)

I have the new 82a, but it is yet to be broke in. It is a beautiful engine, and looks like it belongs in a glass case, not on a plane.

I've done a lot of searching about breaking these in, and the info I've seen points to a very long break in (even longer than the manual says) but the result is well worth it. This is due to the AAC design which uses similar materials that are actually polishing each other into a perfect fit.

Here's a site dealing only with Single cylinder Saito's. Lots of great info.

Josey Wales -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 8:30:28 PM)

I flew my new 82 today with a 14x4w APC 15%..I have about 6 tanks run thru it and I have it at just under 9000 rpms..Im keeping on the rich side till I get more time on it..I have the idle down to about 2200..Even at this rich setting it has tons of power!! My buddy has a 72 that he runs 30% and it seems like the 82 has MORE power even running rich!! From the first time it started with 1 flip!! I have it in a Funtana 40...

Shahid -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 8:33:42 PM)

I really want an 82 now, does it run how? Because its in a 40 size crankcase I was worried it may be bit didgy but it sounds real good!

How much are these things going for in the US?

Goinstraightup -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 9:19:35 PM)

$254.95

Shahid -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 9:36:05 PM)

Not too bad, same as a Saito 72 golden knight! Hmmm, I think UK it will be £200, not bad at all, just waiting till they get here I spose!

I wonder, will I be the first at my field with a Saito?

Left THumb -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 10:21:51 PM)

Running my first Saito .72 in the H9 Twist and loving every minute of it. I am a little worried about the low end throttle. I can't get it to idle below 3200 RPM's.

Oh well, everything else is great and YES I would but another and another...

Luke 3D returns -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/23/2004 10:32:12 PM)

Just needs more running and leaning out of the low speed needle[;)]

AWDEVO8 -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 3:54:33 AM)

2200 rpm? My .72 will idle at 800... I swear... it just thumps along!! Its almost hard to shut it off!!! I do use cool power 30 but hey, for 6 bucks more a gallon why wouldnt everybody use it?

800??!! Never had one idle that low..I only have 6 tanks thru it so Im sure I can get it lower after it breaks in

Left THumb -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 1:38:28 PM)

I have about 3 gallons through it and though I get it to run around 3200 RPM it's very rough and irregular.

Powers up great with little white spoke. and after landing the heads are not spit boil hot.

I am using 18% oil (80/20 mix synth/caster) and 15% Nitro.

Quicker -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 2:54:47 PM)

Got my 1st one, a 91. I'll be buying more....I LOVE this beast!

NOVAflier -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 3:06:16 PM)

Lowest I ever got a realiable idle on one of my 100's was 1800.. I don't see 800 happening, sorry.

Funtana_Cody -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 3:39:51 PM)

Yeah I'm sorry too but 800? I dont think so pal

AWDEVO8 -> RE: Saito CLUB (6/24/2004 9:01:23 PM)

i'm telling you. I dont think i have a reason to make it up?
