I was running %15 pure castor and %85 methanol, and my engines are performing excellent ( except YS, itreally needs nitro ). I am planning to reduce castor content to %10, does anybody tried this ? Although it seems low, I think excellent properties of castor oil will be enough even in that percentage mix.

Looking forward for your comments,

Thanks.

Before you do that, get a thermocouple (not the infra red type) so you can keep track of head temps with the different oil contents. Personally I'd start with 20% castor and use that as a base line. You'd need to mix small batches of fuels so you can quickly do back to back runs.

You might also want to consider that as the oil percentage gets lower, you have less and less margin against a lean run, which can easily happen in an airplane...especially as the fuel tank gets low and you pull high-G maneuvers. The lower the safety marging, the more chance of engine damage.

Also, extra oil is a help in cooling. Heating something and then throwing it away means the heat goes with it. If your engine is assured of a constant fuel flow, then you can probably lower the oil content a bit. Only 10% oil content would likely be too low for most model two-stroke engines.

We once ran a ducted-fan engine on 18% oil content fuel and had it immediatly seize the connecting rod to the crankshaft due to a lack of lubrication. Going to 23% oil content solved the problem. The two fuels, 18% and 23%, had the same oil blend, just different volumes per gallon.
