Status: offline 		What is the usual deal if I were to get someone to build a kit for me? Do I tell him kit wanted, engine size, receiver / servo manufacturer etc then they go out and buy everything then build it? Or do I have to buy everything myself then hand everything over to them for building? How much have you paid for this service (say for a Ziroli Stuka)?

Status: offline 		Personally I have built 5 Stuka's for people. The cost is based on how far along they want the airplane. Obviously a ready to fly would cost more then a airframe that you would finish youself. I have one Stuka flying in the Huston area now. It is two color green with a G-62. Can't remember the purchaser's name but have seen pictures of it on the forum John N

Status: offline 		I have alway's prefered to have the customer supply the major components. Kit, engine, gear and servos, etc. Glue and hardware, etc. are something I would buy and keep receipts for final billing. Payment for services has been 50% advance and final at delivery. Not doing it anymore, but this was my terms.

Status: offline 		I had a guy build up some planes for me. I found that the best way to do it (at least we thought so) was for us to establish the parameters/price for the kit that you want built, a timeline for completion, and a negotiated bonus schedule for early completion. Then I established an account at the local hobby store for him. Once we agreed to go forward, I would provide the initial items that I wanted to be used on the kit...such as the engine, gear, etc. At this point, with the "open tab" at the hobby store, he would simply go over to hobby store, pick up what he needed and just put it on my tab. This gave me an opporunity to review the bill of items, and also prevent any money from changing hands outside the contracted price. Lastly, I asked for courtesy phone call if anything that he purchased in one day will exceed $100 (cumulatively or singularly).

Hope that wasn't too drawn out of an explanation. But once set up, it's pretty much a hands off deal until the kit is done.

P.S. As a general rule, I found a builder that wanted a building fee of approximately double the cost of the total raw materials cost of the kit/components.

Status: offline 		When I build for people I have them supply everything usually and 20% up front. Now little stuff like glue and that I usually consider in the down so i just use that to do it. I have done several Ziroli planes and it all depends on the detail but i usually get around 1000 to 1500 for the job unless some wants a lot of extra work put into it detailing for them then it jumps. then i usually have a contract with them that says when I say it is done balance is due and if not paid in 6 months they forfeit everything to cover the costs. I know it sounds harsh but ask any builder out there there are times you get stiffed so if you have to buy all the supplies I am only out my time if someone backs out. I have had a plane over a year before the poerson decided to pay and I wont do it again thats why now i pretty much build for myself then sell its a lot less hassle.
