If anyone is interested, Hobby-Lobby have the Alfa MIG 15 in stock now. Price is $159.00. The video of the MIG 15 is nice. It is awesome to see it take off from a grass strip with no landing gear. I was supposed to be saving up money for our up-coming vacation but I may have to divert some funds toward the MIG 15.

Let us know how it flies Swampy.

I won't be getting mine until sometime next month.

I'm going to upgrade my Alfa TA183 to the same MP Jet Brushless Motor that Alfa recommed for the Mig. The Speed 300, although adequate, just doesn't do the model justice.

One thing, when putting the Fan unit all together, pay close attention to the fan blades clearing the outer casing of the Ducted Fan unit. My TA183 came with the Mk 2 Alfa Fan unit (same as in the Mig) and 2 of the blades were contacting the outer casing at the same point.

I removed the fan and lightly sanded the 2 offenders with some Emery paper.

Quick question. I'm putting together a
mig right now, with an MPJ 25/25-26 motor. As my kit didn't come with any glue, what kind do I need to attach the plug to the motor shaft? Will a 30 minute epoxy suffice?
TIA!

If you are referring to the Fan Driver Plate, it is a press on fit.

To remove it you will need a Pinion Puller, most commonly found in R/C Electric Car use.

I got this info from Alfa when I enquired with them about switiching the driver plate from the Speed 300 that my TA183 Huck came with, to the same motor that you are using for your Mig.

In the instructions it is called a plug, but I think we are talking about the same thing, it slides onto the motor shaft, and the rotor slides onto it and is secured with a screw. I have already fit the parts together, and the plug is a loose fit on the motor shaft. The instructions state to glue this part to the motor shaft.

Yeah, it's the same part.

Rememeber that if you ever need to replace the motor, you will need to remove this part. so take that into account when choosing an adhesive.

Try Loctite #638 (green in color) It is designed for this purpose.

See: http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=70&cat=building+%2D+materials+%2D+ADHESIVES

I would not buy the Alfa Mig 15.... Why you ask? Because there have been tons of wing failures. It has been talked about all over another board. See the video for yourself...

oh boy, here we go....
There have been a few wing failures, not tons as you put it. The cause of the failures is pretty well known among those of us building and flying them, and has been discussed here too. If you have any first hand information to pass on, I'm sure we'd all be interested to hear it. But please check your facts before posting.

What is the deal with the wing? Is it something that can be reinfoced? Thanks for the post.

Not needed. The airframe is just fine as designed. The problem is the paint. You must sand the area where the wing attaches, and poke a few holes in the area with a straight pin. This will give the epoxy something to bite to, as it doesn't stick to the paint very well. The wing root fillets cover this area when you're done. You will also want to sand the wing spar joiner and clean it well before gluing.

I couldn't get over the number of people building this model without removing the paint from the fuselage where the wing butts up.

But it goes to prove that some do follow the instructions religiously. If it doesn't mention to remove the paint, they don't.

When I built my TA183 Huckebien, removing the paint on the wing join area was one thing I paid particularly close attention to.

Have not had a problem with that model.

I guess Alfa or H/L need to add an addendum to the intructions in the box re this matter.

Last time I checked, you can get the motor, but you have to order it with a gearbox. It's only $10 more, and easy to remove. It may even get used in something else someday.

Check the ALFA website at

www.alfamodel.cz/index_eng.htm

and click on the "Instructions" heading in light blue under the picture.

This will give you a pre delivery read of the assembly instructions.

Just got my kit and am going through it, pretty cool Mig!

Could someone post a link to the "other Forum" that has info on the Alfa Mig? Any and all help would be appreciated. I ended up buying all the motor,ESC, and Battery stuff from Hobby Lobby.

Thanks in advance!
