I maidened my Alfa Mig tonight. I’ve been flying gas planes for over 12 years.. this was my first electric plane ever.. It felt very strange heading out to fly with just the plane and controller… I was sure I was forgetting something.. not to mention just driving up the street to a local soccer field.. not 45 minutes to the club… then came the flight.. I set it down and took it right off the grass .. so cool! The plane is very stable … very fast with the Hi Max brushless and 2200 tanic Batt… it looked amazing in the sky.. I was very impressed with the performance…I had a blast.. can’t wait till the morning to take it back out… this will be great for quick flights after work in the summer… E-flightline.com really hooked me up.. great guys.. very fast shipping..

I also want to thank everone on this forum.. It gave my great tips to bulid this plane...

Which Himax did you go with? 2025 or 2015? Also, did you do any reinforcement mods? My Mig is on it's way and I have a Himax 2025-5300, CC25, and TP2100 Prolites waiting to go in. I dont want to fold my wings like the guys at E-Flightline.com did with the 2015 in it.

I am also building (very slowly though) my Alfa Mig and the reinforcements I did following others advice are:

- remove the silver paint from the fuselage by sanding at the points that the wing attaches to the fuselage
- make small holes at the same points to help the glue attach stronger to the fuselage

I used 15min epoxy to attach the wings. I also used fiberglass cloth to secure the metal wing joiner to the fuselage. The wings look pretty strong now but can't really tell before I maiden the plane.

I went with the 2025... I sanded of the silver paint on fuse for the wing root... poked hole with a pin for the glue to seep in... used 30 minute epoxy... I also fiberglassed the inside of the fuse sides and the joiner to the air duct... after it all dries I came back with a little gorrial glue... may sound like over kill but it is really flying great! very strong ..... I fly it a few times a week after work... it's really sharping up my skills on the weekends at the club...

funny thing is with all the expensive planes I have it's the most fun...lol

Status: offline 		Big question gentleman. I live at 5300 feet pressure altitude in Albuquerque, NM and have flown ducted fan gas powered and it's a power challenge. Is anyone out there flying at similar elevations and if so what power package setup are you using? Does the MIG have some aerobatic performance at those conditions?

Status: offline 		Hi all, about to finish my Alfa Mig and have one quick question. How do you lead the antenna out of the fuselage?

The instructions state "We do not recommend to put the antenna into the fuselage, as the metallic pigment in the paint would interfere with its function."

Anyone has any issues with the antenna leading through the fusale and exiting at the tail above the tube? Sure looks better this way.

I have 'mispaced' my instructions, where is the 'CofG' range for the Mig? mine is coming out about mid way between the leading and trailing edge. I didn't know if this was maybe a little too aftwards?

Any input appreciated.

It will also help if you sand the shaft a bit so the glue will hold better on the shaft.

Also make sure to do the recommended mods before wing attachment - sand the Al paint, poke small holes and use slow cure epoxy.

I am currently trying to rebuild mine after a deadly crash - not due to wing attachment failure though...

Status: offline 		I misunderstood the directions and glued the plug directly on to the MP Jet motor shaft without a "gap guage" I tried using a soldering iron to remove the plug, but I cannot get it to come off, although it did move up the shaft some. If I am reading the instructions correctly, I think the plug is roughly in the correct position. I found this part of the instructions to be pretty confusing. The instructions call for 3.5mm from the plug to the motor front plate and I have approximately 3mm if I am looking at the correct parts. It also states "The gap between the motor outer shell and the rotor should be about 0,5 to 1 millimetre". I assume this is from the black rotor to the gray piece that the motor sits in and many have modified to add the cooling holes. It's hard to say exactly how much gap there is, I would guess it is about 0.5mm. The rotor seems to spin straight and does not appear to rub on the gray outer shell.

I don't want to damage the motor, shaft or plug by trying to remove it. Do you think this will suffice? I'm thinking at this point I will see how it flies the way it is, unless you have any other suggestions.

The instructions also say to do a mechanical and optical check at low rpm. Is this by spinning by hand or actually connecting the motor to the ESC and battery?

I was told by another Mig owner to not glue the motor to the gray outer shell incase the motor would need to be removed. It seems to be a pretty tight fit, is it okay to just press fit it in?

Sorry for all the questions and I really appreciate your help. I can cut and paste Alfa's instructions if that helps.

Sounds like your OK with the clearances. Just be sure there is no contact, hub to motor housing face, If you used screws to set the motor in the housing that might be an issue. As long as there is no contact, your good to go... You can tack the motor with CA, just use some debonding for removing the motor if need be....

It is by connecting the ESC and batterry and checking for vibrations especially at low throttle. Fortunatelly mine (same motor as you) did not vibrate cause the corrections are quite confusing.

I had 30 flights on my old one had so much fun with it I bulit a new one...
it went in do to a bad hand launch in the wind...

I used testors rattle can enamel...
I did the maiden last thursday.. if flew better than the first one I built..
The red really helps to see this little guy... it gets small fast.. with the Hi-max 2025-5300 brushless .. and a Tanic 2220 batt pack
I don't know the speed. But it is much faster than my OS .46 nitro powered T-34 to give you an idea
you've got to love these little jets... lots of no fuss fun

Status: offline 		Yep, if its the Alfa, there are two indents on the underside of the wing inboard. they are the recommended CG for starters. I say a bit more forward. a bit now mind you... say 2mm. Works for me...

Status: offline 		Hi everyone... now i am not going to read every post to find answers, there are to many, rather if someone would maybe send me mail with solutions. Yes another wing disaster. This was my first jet. I am no newby at flying or building and i suspected prior to ever seeing or hearing of wing failures, that i may have a problem with this mig. I kept a close eye on it for about a dozen flights... what happened to me was not an issue of sanding the paint.. IT WAS VERY CLEAR that the epoxy on the metal joiner and wood block in the wing did not bond correctly. The epoxy eventually released itself from the metal rod, causing the wing to roll and tear off and of course it was a series of break downs from there. I flew this mig with a hi-max 5600 and a 3c lipo. speeds were in the 80's. now i would like to buy another and give it a second chance. i am also considering the F-86 instead since it is easier to enter the ONE PEICE fuse and remove the wing too. any insight would be greatly appreciated. many thanks.
