Maiden could not have gone better.  The Mig was surprisingly smooth and docile.  It had no bad tendency at all.  It flew as if it were much larger and heavier than it is.  It looks GOOD flying by.

Hi Guys,
Is Hobby Lobby the only place to buy the alfa Mig, is there any cheaper on-line hobby shops that carry them?
Regards,

Hobby King sells them....

The Alfa's are not very rugged and also not cheap, that is the bad. The good is they are addictive and fly really well. Sorry to see one in pieces.

Has anyone tried flaperons on the mig 15. I built mine with dual aileron servos, and am thinking about mixing flaperons, but I have no idea what to do or expect. If anyone has tried them I'd love to hear how much deflection you use, how well they work and whether or not you also mixed in any elevator. It would be great to be able to shorten this things glide. It's like the energizer bunny.

Tommy ... personally I think its not worth it. If you want to slow her down come in shallow then hold her nose up to bleed speed or flare her good to shorten the glide (on approach ELEVATOR controls SPEED and THROTTLE controls RATE OF DESCEND). Try not to dive so hard on your turn from base leg to final and also come in low as stated earlier on. Hope this helps.

I programmed the elevator to maximum deflection upwards ( dual rate ) on a switch and use that setting for landings with about 5 milimeters of additional travel I can now flare the thing pretty well.

i don´t like to have my servos on 140% at all times , thats why i don´t leave it like that and tune it down with expo ....small throws work pretty well at 90mph

as stated above elevator controls speed and the mig seems pretty immune to tipstalling,

i´d keep an eye on low speed manuverability since the ailerons aren´t terribly effective at low speeds,

that could be a problem when they only deflect in one direction .

might get hard to react when the wind blows the bird over few inches from the ground.....

have fun with your bird, it certainly is a great little flyer!

cheers

rio

I think the Alfa MIG 15 is still one of the best for this size, got the looks and flies so nicely. Unfortunately, for me I will not get another, flying off gravel fields will just kill this lovely plane. I think getting it in a RED/SILVER scheme is best ... either the red top or tail.
