My first time here,a mig owner here bought mine 3weeks ago, waiting on my brushless motor b/o until 4/26/05. Couldn't wait a hole too fly, so I bought the "Chow hound" through H-L. I get it in 2 days. What other brushless motors fits into this ducted fan, other than the one they recomend?

Hi guys,

does anybody have a good tip how to repair this little bird? After 4 months of heavy-duty flying, it is still going great but the nose starts looking really wrinkly. I admit it went into the ground after an unsuccesful launch with CF too far back when trying new battery. Anyway, is there a good way to repair that type of squished-in nose damage on the little 15?

Maybe should just order a new fuselage from HL some time, but it would be nice to keep this one up as long as possibele!

Danny

Any Speed 300 size brushless motor with a Minimum KV rating of 4000 will fit. (HIMARK, MPJET, MEGA, HACKER etc.)
However ensure that any real snug fits get some extrta ventilation as heat is the biggest enemy. The fan unit has absolutely no cooling air ducts in it.
Andy Steere's Mig Page has some good hints about modifying the fan unit for some cool air ingress/outlet.

Wilson,
Do yourself a favour and say YES and go get one.
Then watch the rest of the Kuala Lumpur Flying Fraternity shove all tjsoe Zero's aside and go rushing out to buy one.
(Now get back to the ARF section where you belong, haha!)

Garotup - can you get me a pic of your Chow Hounds motor mounting? Can it take a Himax motor with a MPI gearbox (GWS style). Thanks!

hi all, couldnt resist...a bunch of us are now using the himax 2025-5300 after testing a number of units and all of us get around 22A and 520g thrust...that's right, 520g (19oz).

no wonder it jumps into the air.

we've all gone out and bought these fans for other projects. If there's anything that can do 5300rpm/volt and draw under 22A, or conversely handle more amps than the himax then it is possible to go higher rpm.

we record 50-53k rpm tachoed....and the thrust is measured with intake lip on on a digital scale. it produces about 100-130g less with no lip.

we havent yet found a better match....FYI the same motor rocks on the microfan for 22A and 53k rpm...

Is anyone using a model motor mini ac 1215/12 or a hyperion hp-x22s5000kv. motor. Hobby lobby said the 1215/12 was a step up from the mpjet 2525/26 and will bolt in. I read that alpha has a new fan that will accept a mega 16-7-4.

i ended up overhauling the whole nose shell, I removed the shell from the front of canopy to the intake and sprayed a foam insulator around the duct, which is now bare. I sprayed between the plastic bottom also. I waited 24 hrs and then shaved the excess foam off with a fine sand paper.
After getting the proper look with the sandpaper, i covered with ductape. Its color almost matches the mig. still weighs under 16 oz , but i put in a feather reciever to counter the added weight.

Good luck
Fly Tough.

Im building an Alfa MiG 15 at the moment, but have made a bit of an error with the fitting on the plug to the motor shaft. Basically I have drilled the hole in the plug 2.75mm rather than 2.5mm.

This is now a slightly loose fit on the shaft and I was wondering....

1) Will the glue (suplied in the kit) be strong enough to hold it on (given that its getting no help from friction)?

2) Potentially my whole fan could be slightly off center by 0.25 mm, will this cause vibration problems or will I be able to balance this out?

Thanks for any help

David Bevan

At the rpm the fan will be doing, I would not like to run one that is not centred properly. It will shake the s*@t out of the model!

You may have to get a new fan. The Alfa ones are available seperately and are not that expensive.

Wilson,

Just put some strips of clear reinforced tape on the underside of the model to protect it when landing on dirt.

Or just steer it into the Lallang and put the tape on your shins for when you go into the Lallang to retrieve it!!

gator - thanks! Now I wonder how one will affix a GWS style gear box.

Woody - thanks for the tips! Shall I send some lallang seeds to Aus? Hahahahaa!!! I think the MIG will be brilliant with my HIMAX 2025-5300, I have been so lazy, not been flying the MicroJet even.

No, keep the lallang up in Malaysia thanks Wilson. I have had enough lallang cuts to last me a lifetime.

So you've got the lazies like me.

A MIG will get that out of you. Put one on order for when Sing Hobbies get the next shipment.

The Himark will make it go real good, but careful, the trade off with the Alfa fan unit is a huge heat build up. 5 minute flights only and allow to cool down before the next one.

Best have something like an Alfa KI-84 or FW-190 to fly between times.

Did you ever get that P51 you told me about?

Woody - I emailed Singapore Hobby, I am looking at the Fliton Quiet Storm and the Chow Hound, the MIG I will think about, the flying field is really just a dirt field and it will shred the MIG's belly soon. No P51 ... too many planes and I wanna cool it. Waiting to get my Fliton Extra and the F90 up ASAP. The Laser is really nice ... bigger is better!

Anyone here got a video of their MIG flying?

Wilson,
"Chow Hound" will give you the same problems with landing on its belly as the MIG will.
"Gravel Rash!"
You will still have to put some tape on the underside of the fuselage as well as on the wing tips .
I will send you a copy of an Alfa MIG in flight, to your private e-mail address.
Cheers mate.

This is true, you can use clear packing tape,or even colored duct tape. Neither one will be too heavy. By the way I did my first ground launch off a fairway on a golf course. NO SWEAT
