Hello fellow homebrewers.
I wanna mix a simple fuel that will contain 80% methanol and 20% castor. The problem is that i opnly found Klotz benol castor that cost me $9 a pint. With prices like that for the oil its way cheaper buy mixed fuel beacuse similar fuel cost me about 12$/gal.
Does anybody know a reliable sourse of relatively cheap oil ,either synthetic or castor for the glow fuel that i can buy online,or somewhere in Mississippi (jackson area)
Thanks for help.

Mitty

Your LHS should be able to get oil by the gallon from Sig.
They supply Klotz KL-200 (Synthetic) and Bakers-AA (Castor) both for about $24/gal retail.

Also try your local cycle/kart shop for Klotz KL-100 (Castor/Synthetic) for about $8/quart.
I've found online places were you can get the stuff cheaper, but shipping eats away the difference.

Follow up to this thread and let us know what you end up with!

Mitty,

The best prices comes in large qty (4 gal +). So if you're willing to give it a try, here are my suggestions:

I've been using Coolpower oil (made by same company that makes glow fuel, Morgan Fuel) for several years with good results. If you want more info check out this link: http://www.morganfuel.com/go-kart.htm.

Another member contacted Morgan Fuel about this oil and usage in glow engine and their response was positive. The only thing that I've noticed is the fuel mixture changes to dark brown color (Morgan Fuel also said the same) if you store it in a clear plastic bottle and expose it to the sun. No change in performance though.

I buy it online from Tommy's Kart (http://www.tommyskarts.com/). Go to their website, look under catalog, and select Oils. Coolpower comes in 2 versions, the Yellow (contains castor, 3 weights), and Green (100% synthetic). I use the Yellow light weight version. Others on here use the medium weight with good results also. Tommy's sells the 4-cycle version of this oil, but it works fine with glow engines. I've ran this oil on many different engines with great results.

There are a couple of other online Kart supply store that sells it a little cheaper, but since I always get quick and reliable service from Tommy's Kart, I stick with them. Even with shipping, 4 gal of Coolpower oil shipped to your door is about $75.

You should also check with local Kart store and see if they sell this oil and possibly save on shipping.

If you're looking for 100% castor oil, I buy Baker's AA castor oil from the Sig website.

I mix mine in 5 gal batches (1 gal of Coolpower oil + 4 gal of methanol). Per gallon price is around $4-$5.

Good luck and enjoy the savings.

Just a heads up on this CoolPower kart oil.
Its specified use is sump oil in 4-stroke kart engines, not 2-cycle premix.

I have run this stuff myself, (about 20 gallons of fuel through my Moki) and still do.
I have no reason to believe it causes any kind of premature wear.
(Send me a PM if ouy're interested in buying a couple of gallons, in quarts)

However, it emits an unpleasant sulphuric smell when burnt.
I have had several fellow members complain about it.

For my money, I'll be sticking with tried and proven KL-100 and Castor.
Tommy's has an excellent price on the KL-100, in cases.
Yes, it's more expensive but good oil is never cheap.

Morgans also sells castor oil. You can buy a mixed four gallon case from them for $88 shipping included.

martyg is right about the "different" smell of the Coolpower oil mix. But then exhaust from any running engine smells (and bad for your health) irregardless of oil type & brand (unless you're running electric . Since Mitty is looking for "cheap" oil, I don't see the advantages of spending more for Klotz if you get the same lubrication with Coolpower oil (along with the savings).

Yeah, possibility to save makes me wanna order some and try.I checked with local raceshop and they sell methanol by gallons in yoru container.I doubd it's poluted with water really bad since they use it for racing so i might buy me a 5 gal canister of methanol. They sell it for 2.78 + tax. Then will mix with cool power to get me some cheap fuel.I heared some folks add acetone for preventing water absorbtion. What your thoughs of that?
Thats for input, folks.I appreciate it !!!

You will find it in cart shops. Bought mine from Tommy's. Call and ask for the two cycle version.

I used acetone once and didn't notice a difference in the way my engine runs. As for reducing water absorption, I leave that up to the chemist folks to prove. Since acetone smells so strong, I can do without it (and my engine hasn't complained since).

Acetone is actually another form of alcohol and also asorbs water. It is used to reduce detonation, but use it sparingly as it will eat up your paing and cause your covering to peal off.

At almost $5 per pint, that's not very cheap.
