SHE FLIES!!!!!
We have this superstition at out flying field. Maybe it's because I'm a Professional Photographer and everyone wants me to take pictures of there new ships??? But the superstition is that you NEVER, NEVER, photograph a new ship until you fly it, at least ONCE.
So this morning in keeping with that tradition, I got up at 8:30 AM (bet the neighbors loved that) and cranked up my new Falcon SE II!!!
WE'LL as info, it does not start unless you have the battery connected to the glow plug. I was so excited, and so anxious to hear that engine purr, that I forgot to connect the battery!! I cranked and cranked!!! But finally, I realized what I had forgot and one crank and she fired right up.
IN the air it was so smooth I could hardly stand it. I counted to 5 with my fingers off the controls, and that was before I trimmed it.
The blades did not need ANY TRACKING!!! ZERO!! They were perfect!! I went with the WOODY blades that came with the crash kit that I bought from Helicopter World. After a few flights, if I see that I'm stable and not having too much trouble, then I'll put on the figerglass ones that came with the kit.
This certainly tells me this is a quality product!!! I did take my time putting it together. I did check and recheck everything!! And maybe that's why it's running so tight!!!
The final pages in the instruction book were basic radio and servo hook ups. I set up my radio per the pitch and throttle curves diagrams in the instruction book.
EVERYTHING has been set up for mild, easy, flying. I'll get crazy later, for now, let's just do some easy flying.
I can't say enough about how wonderful I think this KIT is. I highly recommend it!!!!
After this weekend, I'll have some more "FLYING" pictures to post.
Finally, several people asked me where I was going to put the gyro. I really had no idea???? After looking at it for about 20 minutes, I decided to make a little plywood shelf under the canopy. PLUS being I put the rudder servo on the tail, this allowed me to put my 502 gyro in the spot where the rudder servo was supposed to go (see photo). I LOVE THIS location!!! The 502 gyro has a volt sensor that it displays!! SO you never have to wonder if you have enough power to fly!! VERY NICE FEATURE!!!
For any of us who already have the Falcon SE (or The Hawk IV, Hawk SE or Raven for that matter), I am sure there was no doubt in any of our minds that you would be very impressed with the unit.
As your skills progress and your flying time accumulates you will find yourself gaining more and more respect for it because of its very low maintenance factor and how it just keeps flying and flying without developing any wear of consequence.
It will fly as precisely today as it will a few years from now. Due to the quality of its systems and the relatively low price, it has become the ruler by which I now judge other models with.
Syclic, Very good point. This is something that gets overlooked about the Falcon when compared to the likes of a Sceadu or Raptor. The machine is built out of MILLED parts and ball ball bearing raced joints. This is what X-Cell, and Robbe do. You don't get a much INJECTION molded parts like the plastic fantastics. I was impressed by how well the kit aligned and built. It is an excellent first and long term heli and because of these issues it will continue to gain popularity and respect for the Century line.
When Kirk asked around on this board he didn't get swayed by the bias as seen at RR with the Hirobo crowd. We all know that the Sceadu is a fine ship. But, you don't need 10 Hirobo followers beating every other machine down while being oblivious to the quaility available in other brands. Basically, by purchasing anything other than a Sceadu you have banned yourself from all you senses in their eyes.
I looked at ALL of the 50 ships out there. Even the discontinued ones. Everything from Kalt, JR, Hirobo, Thunder Tiger, Robbe, Minature Aircraft, Bergen, Kyosho and the only one that met my criteria was the Falcon SE II. What was my criteria? In no particular order: 1) Woof free 2) Low weight 3) Driven tail 4) Low crash costs 5) Low maintenance 6) Proven drive train 7) Value (that is features/cost) 8) Aggressive cyclic 9) High collective pitch range 10) Parts availability (web or local didn't matter. Just need one or the other)
Everyone is different and has different requirements. So the Falcon may not be for you. Look around and take your time and don't be afraid to try something new and different. But, if you are in the 50 market and fail to look at this heli you did yourself a HUGE disfavor.
Kirk, Hey fella you did a great job. I really felt that you would like this heli. I am glad you got it, built it, flew it, and liked it. Congrats and welcome to the Falcon Brotherhood.
Now, go to the LHS and get some of that Pactra Window Tint in the spray can. Wash the canopy lens in soap and water, dry and TINT THAT WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....NOT TINTED????
Hey, what's wrong with me????
Anyway, I ordered the Fiber Glass Canopy and fin set today. I'm going to have them painted with some wild flame colors or something.
Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!!! I too am glad I bought this ship.
I'll be posting some FLYING pictures this coming MONDAY. AFTER that, I'll be finished with the project.
I'm going to send this article to ROTARY Magazine, and I'm going to send it to CENTURY!! WHO KNOWS??? Maybe they'll want me to build a HAWK, or a Bell 47G II .50, YEA!! That would be cool!!
I'm sure I could give up my normal Photographing fee in trade for a kit to build??? HUMMMMMMMM this could become a THING......

OK, if you have read through this entire post, you are now wondering how this puppy flys??? Correct????
I would like to report that this Falcon is so smooth!!! And so tight!!! And such a pleasure!!!
I went to the flying field this afternoon and the only other guy who flys helicopters was there. WE are at about the same level as far as experience. HE just bought a used XCELL all graphite and metal and EXPENSIVE!!!
I did not get to fly his ship, but I'm hoping to do it tomorrow. But just watching his ship, and my new Falcon SE II, well, they appear to have the same look. Both ships we can count to about 5 with our hands off the sticks. When you dump the nose, they both track so smooth!!
ONLY thing is the XCELL is only 5 times the price!!!!
I can not help but highly recommend this helicopter!!! I'm, I'm, I'm speechless!!
Tomorrow I'll be taking some images of it in the air, I'll be posting them Monday. TILL then happy flying!!

Well I met Kirk at the field this afternoon. It's been about five yrs since I last flew/ hovered a heli. Kirk was nice enough to let me hover both his Nexus and his new Falcon. Guys the Falcon is rock steady, very easy to hover. Kirk is gonna cost me some money, I can see it coming. Jerry
