Building a Top Flite 1/5 scale P-51 Mustang. What servos would you use and why? What radio would you use, needing seven working channels, one for smoker, and why?
I'll be using a Quadra 42, turning a 18X10 prop. This is my first large scale project. Thanks for all comments. Ken NYC

I have many giant scale warbirds and have found the FMA line of servos are GREAT! You can't beat the price and I have yet to strip a gear. You can buy the hi torq servos from them for around $25 to $30 each. Well worth it. They are the std size as well so no extra cutting out of the tray. I have the T.F. 1/5th scale P-51B and you will love how they fly! Good Luck!!!

Keep em flyen'

i would use at least 55 oz servos on most servos, and 70 oz servos one on each half of the elevator. of course throttle could be a standard servo. if i were buying the radio i would buy the one that's similar to what you have now, although it would have to have throttle servo travel control, exponential on the elevator and preferably on the rudder and throttle too, and of course dual rates on ailerons and elevator.

i have futaba and have never had the radio cause a crash. so i will stick to futaba. although it may be that others would be good too i see no reason to change.

i would suggest that you buy the heavy wire servo extensions. i usually buy my aileron y-harnesses from electrodynamics- if you tell them what length you want it to be they will custom make it for you. this keeps you from having any more plug-in connections than absolutely necessary. each plug-in results in some voltage drop so i avoid all the connections i can. also get the heavy duty switch - i like the one that has the charge receptacle included with the switch.

of course you probably know to keep all radio wiring as far as you reasonably can away from the engine to avoid rf pickup. i use a 4-40 plastic pushrod with the 4-40 end inserts and plastic/steel ball connection at the engine throttle.

Ed; Thanks a million. Although I'm flying for 15 years, I'm still learning. That's why I posted my help request. You have given me a few great pointers. I'll use them and pass them on also.
Happy flying. Ken
