My vxl is really fast, definatly faster then my stock Nitro rustler.....but with the new conversion I did I think the nitro one is faster now. The 2 speed tranny really helps though.... and a 2.5r .....

I will give you some friendly advice. DO not Run your truck into objects thats bigger then it is. examples:
Trees, buildings, walls, etc.

LOL..

Well when you get finish replacing with stronger parts your truck should be tuff.

I was having a blast with my rustler untill I got the motor up to 160 degrees. and smoke came from the wirse going from the esc to motor.... got a little HOT! But I am running 3 cell batterys A123 types.. so 10+ volts could have something to do with all of that

I didn't run it into anything, my friend wanted to drive it and it flipped over on the pavement and did a few cartwheels. Heard a loud snap on the first flip and that was that.... Of course it was fitted with the mashers and stiff rear suspension for off road driving, not pavement. I'm starting to think that I don't like pavement, things seem to break less when I'm driving in the dirt!

The motor should be good to 200F. I'm also running A123s (6cell 3s2p & 4cell 2s2p), it's actually only about 10v flat with the 3s and all the amps you could need... I was running the Velenion motor with the Sidewinder today in long grass and I got the motor up to 145 and the esc up to about 165. I also ran the CC4600 and it got even hotter, but no smoke (I'm thinking of getting a motor heatsink and maybe a fan for the ESC). Maybe you need to gear down a bit?

Looks nice! I like the red bodies for sure, that's not stock is it? Haven't seen that body before, is that custom work? Do you like having those bigger tires on the front?? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth going with 4 inch tires all around, but I don't think the mashers would make good front wheels cause my back ones already slide around from side to side. Those Talons look sick all the way around.. to bad it'd cost me like $120 for all four of them... maybe more...

It is a stock red rustler vxl body. I changed the stickers and added some PARMA stickers. I run Anacondas on the street and the talons off road. I like the talons, but on pavement they don't touch the anacondas. I run a Maxamp 8 cell NiMD - works great - wheelies on demand with the anacondas on. I like www.rcplanet.com for stuff - but shipping is expensive unless you buy a lot to make it worth while.
I think my rustler vxl esc just fried though - for no apparent reason, just got really hot when I plugged a battery in and now acts weird - no reverse.... I need to go to my LHS and hopefully they will give me a new one, or I'll have to try going thru Traxxas worst case. This is the 2nd esc that has fried for no good reason - its frustrating as I just was given 3 sweet ramps from a local rc track - and when I plugged in to try them out, thats when the esc fried - sucks.
I want to get a 1/8 monster truck next - thinking about the Associated mgt 8.0. Or possibly a LST2.

No, I'm not running 12 cells. I have a single 6 cell 3s2p pack (9.9v) and another 4 cell 2s2p pack (6.6v). Ten cells total from a 36v DeWalt pack I tore down. These batteries make driving fun! Long runtimes and full-power right till the end of the run!

Ya, I haven't really drove RCs this fast before, but I still drive 10x better than any of my friends who I've let drive it. I want my girlfriend to get into it, but she's scared to drive it. I told her I'd set everything to 50% for her but she said she still just wants to watch.

I SOOOOO want a local track to open up! I want a good clean track to run on and I wouldn't mind getting into racing if there's money to be won... My local hobby shop is starting a club and they're supposedly talking with the city trying to get permission to use some land just a few blocks off mainstreet, but I guess the city is being slow getting back to them. For now I just have a couple spots I've found driving it around, one's got a big water hazard that's almost proved fatal twice now... the RC gods have been good to me though and the truck is still runnin... not going back to that spot again.

how do you charge thoughs batterys? and is it possible to make a 2s4p battery pack, and are the cels the same size as nimh cells? also do you have to have a lvc?

You need to get a charger that is A123 or LiFe ready. I personally picked up the IMAX B6 charger and it does a great job, even lets me monitor the mAh going into the battery and has a discharge option. Not to mention you can do LiFe, Lipo, NiMh, NiCad, AND Lead acid batteries with it. It does balance charging although I hear it's not accurate at balancing due to poor resister quality. I don't balance charge so that's not an issue.

You could make a 2s4p, but it would be a little on the heavy side.. My 3s2p was originally a 6.6v 2s3p. Both arrangements I was able to get in a triangle formation two cells long. I'll post a pic... eight cells would be a bit much to pack into the truck, 6 cells give me about a half hour of runtime. The 4 cell is about 20 minutes... both 2s and 3s give good power, but the 3s seems to be a bit more responsive and a little faster. With the 10 cell Dewalt pack, it's perfect to make a 4cell and a 6 cell pack from and that's all I need and I'll probably never have to replace them!

If you look in my gallery now you can see how I have the 4 cell pack installed. They are bigger and longer than nimh cells by far, but they mount pretty good in the Rustler anyways. Don't think you could do it as easy in the monster truck with the side compartment type mount.

A LVC? What's that? Low Voltage Cut-off I'm guessing... no, unlike Lipos you don't need to use lvc with LiFe's! They will simply quit pushing your truck when they're done. Literally you go from full power to done in about 10 seconds... you can completely discharge these cells if they're left on something that can slowly pull out the juice for a long period of time AND this doesn't ruin them! Of course you have to use alternative means to get them back up to minimal voltage before your charger will recognize them again...

2s ends around 5v, 3s ends around 7v... but again, lvc is not needed!

Sorry I read that wrong, I see now you said 8 cells, well yeah Thats fine.

I love A123's I fly airplanes mostly and have been using these cells for over a year now.
