hey guys i know this may be the wrong thread but it is the everything rustler thread so... Would u suggest the rustler xl 5 to a 11 year old who likes to rip around our homemade track with my tmaxx 2.5. It's my brother and we don't want to get another nitro because we have only had problems with my tmaxx. so we are looking into electric. Is the rustler decently fast on 7 cells and how does it handle in grass. I have seen videos only on dirt and it seems pretty quik but i want to know how it handles on rougher terrain and in grass. My track is smooth but kinda almost covered in weeds. Also, how does the rusty handle jumps(small on a track).

I'm not being snotty but i don't want to hear get the vxl because he can't spend that much (parents ). Also, it will be and always be 100% stock so i need to know if it is good stock. We want something fast but cheap (xl 5) .

Thanks in advance!

yep, thats exacly how i thought. I dont want to get to carried away with this truck and it will be stock. LOL thats how i was until I got a new motor then gears then cool looking stuff and now my pede rips through baseball diamonds and everything else (grass rocks whatever you throw at it). I like the rustler alot also. It seems more controlable. I have both with brushless of course. And yes the motors lasted about all of 3 runs for me.

Well I have the older one it has the XL-1 and well if it can handel this the XL-5 should deff be a good truck for your brother.
Here is a video, I have jumped everything with this truck and so far only broken a shock on it.
Replace the front bumper with the RPM is a must

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSwKZIdfQT8

now in this video I am running A123 cells but a 7 cell should be about the same, I am also running a 17T motor but the new one the XL-5 comes with should be about the same speed and all. I love this truck but its about to go brushless. I have a need for power

Also with the stock singer motors they lasted about 30-40 runs in out trucks with the 6 cell gp3300's
remember the more power the motor gets the faster your going to kill it, (brushed motors that is)
Anyone can watch the video I ran it yesterday and made it lastnight ment to upload it anyways.

How fast would a HV 6.5 BL system be on 6 cells?

Frozen-

Great pics (I said that in the other thread).

To answer your question, it wouldn't be as fast as you would think. It's made to run off two packs. It's a very low Kv, I think. It would be like running the 14.4V titans on 6 cells. It wouldn't be much faster then what you have now, if any.

Great... now I want mashers on my front... this is truly an expensive hobby...

Can anyone recommend some good springs for an off-road rustler. The stock front shocks don't seem to be cutting it, if I push the front end down it doesn't come back up to horizontal which would explain why the bottom of the front is so smashed up from bottoming out. I have T-maxx springs on the back with some better aluminum shocks and I think the springs might be too stiff... any suggestions?

is the shaft bent? or does it have good oil, these two things would cause it not to come back up.
I want better ones for my rustler too.

I haven't found any good springs yet. I believe that Losi makes some that fit, but I'm not sure. I would add better Wt oil. Maybe some pre-load spacers. Put your OLD rear springs on the front. I know they will be long but that will make them pretty stiff.

So XL shocks will fit the front end?? Haven't tried it yet, but I was wondering about that. I actually sold the rear shocks with my XL-5 as a freebie...

I'm using the recommended silicon oil from Traxxas. I don't think the shafts are bent. Theres a minor amount of resistance from the ball joints in the linkages, I also think maybe it's resisting between the bulkhead and the suspension arms. I just ordered an aluminum bulkhead so that should improve a bit.

I don't want them to be really stiff, just a tiny bit more and the spacers just don't really do a good job. If I stiffen the front end too much I end up flipping it in corners all the time... where's my happy medium??

To the guy who is thinking about getting a xl-5 for his 11 year old brother, don't. I bought one for my 4 year old daughter a few months ago. After 3 runs the motor crapped out. Since we run them offroad and I don't want to be buying a new motor every week I decided I get a sidewinder esc and brushless, she loved it ran great until 4 runs later she crunched the plastic tranny gears. So I upgraded her to metal trans gears. She drove it a few more times and now the wheel bearings are getting sloppy.

So you take the car ($150), plus sidewinder esc/motor ($130), new gears ($20) plus bearing (price=?) is more than $300. I bought my vxl for $265. The xl-5 is just not a good value for anyone at any age. It has jst been one disappointment after the another for her when my car is running and I have to explain to her why she can't run hers.
