Why? do not get aluminum shocktowers????

Because if you land up-side-down then you will more then likely bend it, and when you try to bend it back, it tears.

That's what the FLM warranty is for.

So the RPM shocktowers are the way to go you think?

I've owned a lot of RPM products and I am proud to say I've never broken one of them. I even prefer Rpm over aluminum.

You can get the Swami Bar at the Official Swami Site

That's a good pinion to go with. You could probably stick with the 86 tooth spur if you want it more geared down. CC actually recommends larger spur gears.

I believe that is the correct idler gear. I got the VXL, so I haven't had to replace any internal gears yet.

AS FOR THE LOSI Adam Drake 2 SHOCKS>>>>

I put them on last night and I am slightly dissapointed. They are excellent quality, but not a straight fit for the rustler. The included springs are way too short for the rear, so I had to stick my blue T-maxx springs on them. I put the red springs on the shorter front shocks. The rear shocks are too short, so you have to move the bottom mount in several holes towards the body which gives you a more vertical position.

Also, I had to try out multiple screws to mount them. The original screw that was already on the truck won't fit through the ball on the bottom of the shocks. This could be remedied (i think) by using the bottoms off the original shocks. Also the top mount hole is too big for the stock screw. I used some longer screws and the included grey bushings to mount the tops. The front bottom mounts need a wider ball joint to fit the space, so I just put the stock ball in, but the shock is kinda loose on it.

Overall suspension still seems very soft even with the T-max springs on, not sure how good they will be for bashing. Our RC club is supposed to be doing a demo at an upcomming city festival so I'm going to stick the street tires back on and see how it handles. I'll follow up with more including pics later.

that sucks now im gonna have to do mad mods to get this thing right. the front ones went on ok but idk about the back cause i have the tranny off

anybody gonna answer my qusetion about bashing the rusty

Yep I will answer you right now. The answer is it is a great basher, and a good racer, I mean it does go 70+ after all. (Not that you go that fast at a track.)

Speed isn't everything on a track. The Rustler xl-5 is an ok basher, and a horrible racer.

Zimm11- take my word for it, buy a t4 or a e-firestorm.

still going on about the t4 arent you lol jk jk im actually considering an xxt

I actually owned a t4. Everything on it was better then a Rustler. Screws, the way it was built, everything was better quality. It handled 10x better, and it only broke once in the time I owned it.

Come on guy, this is not a thread for talking about how the T4 is or is not better then the Rustler, it is quote the "Official Rustler Thread".
So lets talk about the Rustler.

Sorry to crush your spirits, but it's true. The guy wanted to know what he should buy. Instead of saying, "since your in the Rustler thread, you should buy a Rustler?" No. I told him the honest truth that you guys were too proud to admit. The t4 beats the Rustler in everything besides maybe durability, but I am doubting that.

Another good thing about that body is that it's thicker then Rustler bodies. Since it's an E-maxx body, it's extra thick lexan.

Am I allowed to talk about Pro-line in the Rustler thread? I couldn't find a Pro-line thread.. (whf)

ok guys just bought another rustler this time the vxl. my first one decided not to upgrade to brushless cuz the chassis is about gone so its a basher only. still goes good love it to death. but i have my vxl coming tomarow cant wait. have a few questions though. i run dean's all the way around on my other tuck and i run 4200 intellect 7 cells and i want to keep deans so i can switch batteries to diffrent trucks. the vxl comes with traxxas conectors but i cant put deans because of warranty right? also i know its probally asked a 100 times but i looked but didnt find a good answer, what gearing should i run with 4200 7-cell with the vxl for bashing and having all around fun. thanx a bunch

I would just make your own adapter wire using the traxxas and the deans....its pretty easy to do as long as u know how to use a soldering iron...this way u don't mess with warranty and if u decide to go lipo u can just get it with the traxxas connector already on...supposedly they handle the high voltage better..just my 2 cents
