âûñøåå îäíî -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (7/15/2004 7:42:36 PM)

when did this happen?

The PIPE -> It's all about the MIS-trustees... (7/15/2004 11:19:58 PM)

Dear H-Ray-RCA...

The PIPE here once more...and you can BET I'm VERY worried about the SAD events that have been occurring at ORA lately!

You can read ALL about it with a DETAILED reading of what's transpired IN that thread there...summing up "just a FEW" of the SAD events so far, the "Board of MIS-trustees" FOOLISHLY fired just about ALL the volunteers that have been making (and HAD been keeping) ORA operational for the decade since Cole Palen's passing, they even accused one of those volunteers of STEALING an Apollo space capsule's parachute from the Skylab days that had been originally donated to ORA's collection, one that HAD been given to him by Cole before his passing (the volunteer HAS had the charges DROPPED by the courts)...and NOW the MIS-trustees have got a HELICOPTER to give people "vintage aircraft rides" (a Bell 47 from the Korean War era) instead (for a SHORT while) of their well-known New Standard biplane? At least from what I understand the New Standard IS flying again...but a BELL 47 HELI flying for "vintage aircraft rides" at a museum that specializes in PRE-WW II aviation presentations??? MORE than "just a bit" OUT of character...!

It COULD be that the "Board of MIS-trustees" (Tom Daly, Terry McClinch and Jim Kick) may NOT (yet) understand very well at ALL what a SPECIAL place Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome HAS been in the past...and NEEDS TO KEEP BEING...where volunteers who really LOVE what they're doing have been the lifeblood of Cole Palen's great place to experience antique aviation in the past.

They've even possibly been guilty of using "homeland security" and "Patriot Act" ruses to harass and restrict the ordinary activities of a few of the LONG time (30+ YEARS in a case or two) figures at ORA, like Richard King (one of Cole's ORIGINAL pilots at Rhinebeck) as an example, mentioned in the forum thread you gave the link to...so I DO admit to wanting someone DIFFERENT leading our nation than our current leadership has been the last four years (which placed those sorts of easily-MISusable laws in place), so that ruses like those used by the MIS-trustees can and WILL eventually "evaporate" into the past...it COULD help Rhinebeck survive MUCH longer, IF the work being done by concerned people manages to CHASE the "Mis-trustees" OUT of the Aerodome and so people who REALLY know what Cole's wonderful place IS really all about can start getting things "back to Cole's way of doing everything"...I'd REALLY appreciate THAT, as I'd WANT to see ORA keep going on as Cole HAD intended it to.

ONE person who IS apparently doing good work in the background to try to "help save ORA" is the Mayor of Red Hook, NY, where ORA IS really based...his name is MARCUS MOLINARO...HIS contact info is at:

Mayor Marcus Molinaro
Town of Red Hook
County Legislator Dutchess County
PO Box 397
Tivoli, NY 12583
845-757-2021
email: spirit@marcmolinaro.com

(this information HAS been posted before in the linked "Aerodrome" forum thread there)...

and a bit of "background" info about the ATTITUDE of the MIS-trustees comes from a news item from a New England-based aviation newspaper named "The Atlantic Flyer" in an issue that came out last winter...it's attached to this post so YOU can read it and judge for yourself. (It WOULD be best to view it in a GRAPHIC software program, even one of the ones that comes with Windows, to see and read it "legibly"...it's NOT too easy to read that article in a BROWSER window!)

And these MIS-trustees are just "not letting ANYONE know" WHAT their FUTURE plans are for ORA......that's PARTIALLY what the term "board of MIS-trustees" is based on!

I just "hope like heck" that SOMEthing GOOD can come of all the SAD occurrences that HAVE been happening at ORA over at LEAST the last year's worth of time...!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE.....[8|]

airbatic -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (8/6/2004 7:20:02 PM)

Aw heck who needs old, rickety aircraft anyhow?

The PIPE -> And NOW the whole situation is REALLY getting SERIOUS... (10/10/2004 5:29:35 PM)

Dear Fellow ORA Fans:

The PIPE Here yet AGAIN...and, despite apparently UNcaring "trolls" like "airbatic" here at RCU, there's now an ENTIRE WEBSITE dedicated to the SERIOUS situation at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome...

at http://www.saveoldrhinebeck.org/ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make SURE to read the ENTIRE set of pages at that above linked site to TRULY understand the SAD situation at ORA these days...I've been, and will CONTINUE to do, MY part to save a place I've always considered "my SECOND home"...OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME...

...and my efforts to support the people trying to SAVE Old Rhinebeck will NOT stop until the MIS-trustees named Daly (only a MIS-trustee "in training for now" ), Ryder, Richards, Kick and McClinch ARE OUT OF THERE...and THIS list of OVER FIVE DOZEN volunteers are able to return (IF they feel comfortable in doing so...my guess is that the MAJORITY of them WILL gladly return to ORA when the MIS-trustees are GONE)...

...

...and this WHOLE list of former ORA volunteers have had ALL the details mentioned, about what each one of them used to do for Old Rhinebeck, at the page named "The Damage So Far" AT the SaveOldRhinebeck.org website!

The "catalyzing" occurrence that has resulted in the SERIOUSness of the situation at this stage can be read about at the "Help Dick King" page there...the LETTER I wrote in support of Mr. King's efforts to prevent the MIS-trustees from STEALING Mr. King's ORIGINAL Ercoupe light plane "right out from UNDER him" had the following text in there...

"Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (also abbreviated as "ORA" ) has been especially valuable for many people as a place to teach the history of aviation's first 35 years of existence, the technology that made it possible, and actual FLYABLE examples...be they restored originals or accurate reproduction aircraft with original, or similar modern, powerplants...of aircraft extending back in time to only a few years after Orville and Wilbur Wright flew their "Wright Flyer I" aircraft at Kitty Hawk, NC near the end of 1903.

Since the passing of Cole Palen's widow Rita Palen at the end of the summer of 2003, the currently installed "Board of Trustees" operating the ORA facility and airshow has been acting in a totally arrogant and ILLOGICAL manner, for ANY sort of museum to have allowed to happen, in senselessly FIRING the entire dedicated group of volunteers that had been helping, from the work they performed on their own time at ORA, to keep ORA in operation in much the same manner as Cole Palen himself would have wanted it to remain, when his own time among us had ended.

The members of this currently presiding "board of MIS-trustees" at ORA, as I prefer to call them (from their hostile and secretive behavior about ORA's purpose, current operations and ESPECIALLY its future). named Tom Daly, James Kick and Terry McClinch, seem to have NO regard for this unique history of ORA, and the people that have made it what it has been for over 40 years now....the ONE place on our continent to best experience LIVING antique aviation, "just as it was" in its early deacdes...and want to basically DESTROY all the hard work that Cole Palen, Richard King, and COUNTLESS others have been able to gladly contribute to making ORA the great place it HAS been over its first four decades of existence.

The LATEST blow from the Mis-trustees has been aimed straight AT Richard King, who has been allowed, through a verbal agreement with the late Cole Palen back in the mid-1980s (while he was still with us) to "base" a classic 1940s era "Ercoupe" lightplane at ORA in a hangar he and Cole had built together at that time the verbal agreement...which COULD qualify, in some respects I would suppose, as a verbal CONTRACT... was made, which allowed Mr, King to keep his Ercoupe based on the ORA property as long as Mr, King lived, even AFTER Cole's own passing,

What the "mis-trustees" are doing these days is trying to extract HANGAR RENT from Mr. King, to allow him to continue to base his Ercoupe at ORA, which goes strictly AGAINST the verbal agreement between Mr. Palen and Mr. King...and these "mis-trustees" are even going to the extreme measure of SEIZING Mr. King's classic Ercoupe aircraft, and SELLING IT at AUCTION on October 8th, 2004, to "finally extract" their "blood money" from Mr, King...and remove the LAST person from ORA's past, that has been protesting against the "mis-trustees" current and apparent FUTURE policies, regarding ORA's continued existence.

Richard King has been an INTEGRAL personage in the history of ORA, flying a reproduction Sopwith Pup WW I British design aircraft, pwoered with an original 80 horsepower rotary style radial engine of 1918 vintage, in the weekend airshows at ORA from the 1960s through to the early 1980s, as well as a goodly number of the many original AND reproduction aircraft that have flown at ORA over those four decades...he also helped Cole Palen with the construction of MANY of the buildings at ORA over its early years, and contributed in MANY other intangible ways to ORA's great public success over its four decades of operation.

One of Mr. King's own statements in the prologue of his book "The Skies Over Rhinebeck", co-authored with Stephan Wilkinson in 1997, illustrates his feelings for ORA, along with his own concerns for its future existence after Cole's passing...I quote...

"Just as the early pulp magazines and books of the 1920s, '30s and '40s are part of the mystique of aviation progress, the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is their living counterpart for the 1960s through much of the '90s. Now Cole Palen is gone, and I am not sure the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome will continue to exist as we knew it. This is why I want to document my life there, to help preserve the unique events that have graced this little corner of the aviation world."

Can ANYONE, or any GROUP of people, who wants to so totally UNDO all the good things Cole Palen AND Richard King did with the founding and operation of such a place as ORA, be actually ALLOWED to do so? With their latest action, against Mr, King, these "mis-trustees" have done absolutely NOTHING to dispel the angering doubts of their "mysteriously un-stated" intentions for such a wondrous place that ORA HAS been over its four decades of existence...and NOW have shown, to most everyone who HAS cared about ORA for such a long time now, that they have few OTHER intentions than the eventual DISMANTLING of the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome facility, selling off its aircraft, and very possibly "making off with thier tainted gains"...all for NO other reason, that to show HOW powerful they are, and that NO one can oppose them.

Please, Mr. Kave, do what you can to help Mr. King fight this vengeful and shady auctioning-off of his classic Ercoupe...and possibly even help, even in a small way, the much-admired ORA to return to the way things USED to be there...BEFORE the "Mis-trustees" showed up to start RUINING everything Richard King and Cole Palen did to bring Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome into existence in the first place!

The "Mr. Kave" I've mentioned in this letter is the lawyer in charge of PROSECUTING the MIS-trustees, on Mr. King's behalf for the attempt of a fraudulent auction to "steal" Mr. King's Ercoupe...thankfully Mr. King's lawyer WILL get the MIS-trustees INTO COURT in New York State on October 27th of this year, to begin to answer for not ONLY the attempted fraudulent auction, but ALSO for misappropiation of donations to ORA, both public AND private, harassment of MANY of the good people in that LONG list of volunteers I've mentioned here...the list of offenses that they COULD get in trouble for is just TOO LONG to mention here!

But CHECK THAT SaveOldRhinebeck site out for YOURSELF...there's ALREADY links to it at two German antique aviaiton websites, at http://www.biplanes.de/news.shtml (from my German Email buddy JENS KLANK) and at http://www.german-historic-flight.de/bericht.php?id=128&typ=1 ...the International Fleet Club website at http://users.ntplx.net/~flyboy/ AND Fred Sgrosso's Old Rhinebeck and vintage aviaiton photo site at http://home.comcast.net/~fredhome/air_.htm have ALSO been informed about the SAD situation at Old Rhinebeck as of this weekend!!!

Just as I am making the SERIOUS effort to elect ANDY ARGENIO as the NEW AMA District I Vice President this autumn, I am making a "just AS serious" effort in helping OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME in SHEDDING itself of its SELF-DESTRUCTIVE board of MIS-trustees...and I WILL NOT STOP in that effort, UNTIL THEY ARE GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE!

This is sad news to hear, I went for my first time this year and thought it was amazing to see those planes fly

scottrc -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (10/11/2004 3:08:51 PM)

Why is so many organizations going to the way of managing by the allmighty dollar? Why is it that we allow the penny pinchers and "promoters" take over orgnanizations that were founded, funded, and operated by those who love one common goal and not out to "make it bigger and make more money"?

It's sad the the present board wants to make the ORA be like Disneyland, Walmart, and MTV and attract a "Larger Audience". Please! Quit the hype and keep it the way it is. Many of us are tired of commercialism.

ORA sounds like another aviation organization that we are all too familiar with. When "professional" administrators and board members take over, they wonder why their "bigger than life" ideas that require millions of dollars suddenly evaporate when they force out those who were truly committed to making the organization run.

The comment about the annoucer making comments to give money, that would burn me too. Sounds like its time to shut down the ORA and then reorganize it.

Scott

The PIPE -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (7/11/2005 1:04:55 AM)

..and you MIGHT want to read Ted Sacher's words about Cole Palen...

Dear H-Ray-RCA:

The PIPE here once more...and if you head for

http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?p=218950#post218950

you'll be able to read my transciption of Ted Sacher's interview with Cole Palen...only three months before Cole, the founder of Old Rhinebeck, sadly left us in December of 1993...that appeared in Leo Opdycke's WW I AERO February 1994 issue number 143 which appeared on page 2 of that issue.

I've never read an article before that so perfectly conveyed the real truth behind just WHY Cole Palen and his wife Rita were so willing to be the way they were, and that article just about says it all...thank you, Ted Sacher!

An all-NEW set of NY State museum regulations is coming up for a vote at the end of this summer...crafted by one Dave Palmquist in the NY State Dept. of Education, which is responsible for the laws governing the MUSEUMS within that state as well...and from the links I've provided in my latest post there (it's post number 2087 in that LONG running thread) you can check out how MUCH more stringent the newer set of regulations are going to be. Those new regulations were based directly ON the sad happenings with the Mis-trustees at Old Rhinebeck that Dave Palmquist had been informed of by people like yours truly, and by people with "handles" such as Tazbat, Curtiss Jenny, Wingnut, Hellcat, etc...in fact Tazbat is a REGULAR contributor to that long running thread "over there" at "The Aerodrome" 's forum...and with PHOTOS showing how far the Mis-trustees have gone in their DISMANTLING of the Old Rhinebeck aircraft and antique vehicle collection there....just check the photos at Tazbat's post, number 2079, on page 208 of that thread...you'll REALLY see what I mean concerning a Davis D-1W parasol monoplane in the Old Rhinebeck collection!!

The essential links and info for "helping out" are here...

People to write to in the NY State government about the situation at Old Rhinebeck...

David Palmquist
NYS Education Department
Room 3090, Cultural Education Center
Albany, NY 12230
with his Email at my linked thread (can't enter it HERE at RCU, and have it usable for some nutty reason)...

...and Dave's superior is at...

James Dawson
NYS Education Department
Board of Regents Room 110EB
Albany, NY 12230
[no Email address available for Mr. Dawson]

The current museum regulations for NY State are listed at http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/charter/charterlaw.html ...

...Dave Palmquist's NEW set of regulations are at http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/charter/327_full.html ...

...and take the time to check out that forum thread's pages, especially the last few with the PHOTOS posted there...it sure looks like the Mis-trustees' actions ARE taking a more serious toll than before...the attendance IS shrinking at Old Rhinebeck, from THEIR mismanagement!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE...read those posts CAREFULLY...all the info about WHAT can be done to help SAVE OLD RHINEBECK is there to be read and acted upon!

The PIPE -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (2/22/2006 1:38:41 AM)

Could we, who support Old Rhinebeck, now be "turning the corner" towards eventual SUCCESS ???

Dear H-Ray-RCA and Fellow OLD RHINEBECK LOVERS...

The PIPE Here yet again...and from what I just read at http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showpost.php?p=255587&postcount=2351 , from my acquaintance with the handle of "Tazbat" up in Vermont, perhaps the PASSAGE...yes, THE PASSAGE...of the long-awaited new set of New York State museum regulations, and the eventual crackdown on the "Mis-Trustees of Old Rhinebeck" for their constant stream of bad decisions and unneeded secrecy (to name just a few violations), be "just around the corner"???

Well, according to Tazbat himself...

"I received a correspondence from David Palmquist of the NY [State] Museum Charter Office. He verified that the revised rules have been voted on by the Board of Regents and accepted. David's and ORA's ship has finally come in.

When I get a chance, I will post a link to where the revised rules can be found, unless someone else wishes to do so, first."

The new museum regulations Tazbat has spoken of are apparently at http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/charter/327_full.html ...

...so let us ALL HOPE that THESE new museum regulations...with MANY of those changes being directly inspired by the "Rhinebeck Troubles"...will be THE beginning of the process to remove the incompetent "Mis-Trustees of Old Rhinebeck"...and RESCUE a place that many of us HAVE loved in the past...and want to LOVE again...OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME!!!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [sm=wink.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=cool.gif]

tailskid -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (6/20/2006 9:53:26 PM)

What's the status of the Aerodome as of mid June?

Will there be a 2006 'event'? If so, when?

The PIPE -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (3/30/2008 1:50:15 PM)

The Wrongdoing at Old Rhinebeck IS Being SERIOUSLY Confronted...!!!

Dear Fellow RCU'ers:

The PIPE Here...and AT LAST, here in March 2008...TWO years after the New York State government Department of Education's Board of Regents, the people that govern museums within the Empire State...created more stringent rules for how museums within that state operate...

...that Board of Regents has now been presented with an official PETITION that the Save Old Rhinebeck organization worked hard AND long to formulate the language for, and the huge volume of sleazy events and questionable conduct of the "Mis-Trustees" of Old Rhinebeck have been "apparently" guilty of, during the past several years...

...are now OUT IN THE OPEN for everyone to see and judge for themselves.

The key website to view the petition at is located...

http://www.mikespandau.org/petition/ram.htm

...a GOOD NUMBER of the pages there are Adobe Acrobat Reader (or just simply "Adobe Reader" ) PDF files, so if one does not have it at the moment, checking around on the 'Net will find it for you, free to download and install.

This petition process COULD take a while to complete itself...but, just as AMA's District I took the better direction in the late autumn of 2004, in electing Andy Argenio as its new District I VP, those who care about antique aviation's most unique American showplace, now have a seriously GOOD chance of removing the Mis-Trustees of Old Rhinebeck!

True, it HAS been a while since I last posted at RCU...but THIS piece of hopeful news regarding a place I had called "my second home" in the past for many, many years...OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME...is just TOO important to avoid mentioning here at RCU.

Please check out the site...and read about the "crimes and misdemeanors" of the Mis-Trustees of Old Rhinebeck, now mentioned in PUBLICLY VIEWABLE official documents seeking their removal !

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE!

Gwen Ackley -> RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome: Sad News (4/6/2008 1:29:48 PM)

To The Pipe, Thank you for your postings on this forum in support of efforts to save Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. I was a volunteer there from 1980-2003 so I understand what you mean when you write it is like a "second home." For me, Rita and Cole Palen where like a second set of parents to me. Because of them, I have experienced "living history," been part of the ground crew team and have made some wonderful friends.

There is a new web site at www.mikespandau.org Read the petition asking for the complete removal of the trustees of the Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum along with the responses by both sides. The files are in PDF format, can take a while to download, and depending on your monitor some pages may appear blacnk until you scroll down.

What is needed to keep the Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum alive is its membership. Without members, there is no museum and the organization can be dissolved based on those grounds. As I urge you to don’t wait for trustee replacements to renew your membership. We are petitioning for the members to have election of trustees by the membership. Please go to http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/membership.htm and sign up. Keep a record of when you sign up and when your check clears.

Another way you can contribute to the renewal of ORA is by making a contribution to the Petition Fund. With many getting income tax returns, please consider using your refund to show your support and make a donation: http://www.mikespandau.org/petition/contactinfo1.htm.

Thanks to all the RC Modelers for supporting the Aerodrome.
