Status: offline 		in reference to the statement that all you have to do is push a button to start a turbine, have you ever had to start an allison 250 series or a pt-6 or a garett tpe-331, these turbines and many others require a little more than just a button!

but enough about turbines, a nice radial is not even on the same level, to hear a round motor start up is just what i need on those long bouts without any affection from my other half. (wait, did i say that out loud?)

Status: offline 		Well, in my mis-spent youth, there was the Douglas B-26. As a brand new 2/Lt, I had the privilege of flying them in advanced training at Enid, (Vance AFB). What a ball! But, little more than a year later, I went through JUG (jet upgrade) at Craig AFB, Alabama. Good old T-bird. Started down the runway on a hot day, pitiful acceleration, but air-conditioned, tracking down the middle of the road with no inputs, and 5 minutes later I am higher, faster and funner than I had even been. Fast forward. About three years later, I lit off a Convair F-106 at Bunker Hill AFB. Burner climb to 45,000. 450 knots until .92 Mach. Just over two minutes to altitude. That was better than my first.... Oh, hell, that's so long ago, I can't remember, but I sure remember the Six ride.
Yeah, I love the sound of the ol' P&W 1340 in a T-6, but, man, does a J-75 sound great when it's turned loose! And it was easy to start.

Status: offline 		Certified is right! I'll assure you...... I've never gotten carb ice in a MU-2 or a King Air. And a Garrett TPE 331 or a PT-6 makes a WHOLE lot of horsepower and torque! I've got a pretty good bit of time in a Super 18 Beech. The engines make more ice than a Scottsman commercial ice machine! They leak,ooze,dribble,slobber sling out or even burn a few GALLONS of oil PER SIDE, per HOUR. And that's on low time engines. Reliable? Forget it.

Give me a turbine ANY day!

You have made my point. That's aviation.

Turbine engines make you into just another bus driver, though in three dimensions instead of two. If you just want to go from point A to point B by all means take your turbobus.

For enjoyment and maximum fun there have to be three levers for each engine, and the best engines are still the round ones.

Status: offline 		Standing on the floatplane ramp in the morning when we warm up 5 radials in unison always gets me excited to start the day. Standing on the airline ramp with turbines and APUs whining doesn't.

doesnt take anymore or less pilot either way. Taking a half million pound jet down to mins in a foreign land or battling weather in a bush plane in Alaska or going air to mud on a sam site or even air to air are all d#mn challenging . The real flier statement just wont fly bud....

If I don't answer leave a message and I'll call you right back The reason people are not using radials is the same reason you don't see a T model on the interstate.

Turbines are ruining aviation is surely a postulate. It's a throw away remark to indicate that there are more than one ways to skin a cat etc.

The sound of a Merlin in a modern air display is a mere shadow of the real thing when compared to when there was every chance it would not last a week.

With the years, colours become muted and the taste of food has less to offer, the past can not be revisited, it is here with us in what we are.

I wish all of us aviation fanatics the happiest of Christmases however we regard modern developments and conclude that the only thing that ruins aviation is humanity and aviation is a human activity, thank heavens.

I agree with every positive comment and disagree with all the negative.

Consider my own position now,

I think that an aircraft without dihedral somehow looks maimed.

When I fly you should see really silly without dihedral. In fact they fly better with dihedral especially if I leave the controls alone.
