boy acam, that is some spad, I'll be building one soon, that is, if my mom ever lets me take up every room in the house full of airplane parts like I did for the last plane.
nice job

Would a .61 two stroke be ok with this model? Or would I have to change the dimensions?

Well guys I am geting started on me SE and want to know if the materials I bought will work.

1. I could not find the 2 1/2 gutter a lowes, but they had stuff there called 2 3/4" Line Post. It is black in color and is fairly light. Hopefully the glue will stick. Is this stuff the right size?
2. I bought some Welder stuff. Is it basically like Goop and does it stick to the coro fairly well?
3. For the spar i have 2 1/2" x 1/4 aspen. Is This the right size spar?
4. How do the wing inner caps hold to the wing? It seems as though the caps and nylon bolts would pull the cap out.
5. Would a .61 FS or a TT .46 be better? I am think the the .61 because 1 cool sound 2 more torque for hovers 3 better fuel ecomomy.
6. Would 2mil work better for the fuse top caps?
7. Thanks

KyleB15, If you want to build this plane,I am working on a detailed photo plan. I am putting the finishing touches on it now. I just got to a point where I need to take a break. If you use different materials than what is stated then it may not go together correctly and therefore it will not fly like the original. Omaha RC flyer is building one right now and I am waiting for him to finish it and give a flight report. Hopefully it will be positive. He is the first one to build it strictly by the info on this thread and it looks like he is doing a fine job.

acam37,
Thanks for the kind words. The wings are finished as well as the fuse. I will be installing
the main gear, radio, servos, and balancing the remainder of this week. I hope it can be
finished and ready to fly by this Saturday. I will post a flight report and photos of the finished
bird as soon as possible.

She is almost finished, I just need to mount the control horns, linkages, a few servos
and trim it out with sign vinyl. Hope to fly it this Saturday.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I have been using a web cam to take the photos.

You did a fantastic job. I quess that you have built a spad or two. It should be a good flier. Did you have any trouble getting the wing placement for the CG? The first one I built had about 6 slots cut in the side because I had to keep moving the wing back because it was tail heavy. Looks like you nailed it the first try.

acam37,
I followed your advice on attaching the wing plugged together under the bottom
and moving it until I got the correct CG. I had to move the wing a bit, but finally got it.
Once it was found, I marked lines on the bottom beside the spars, then I used a
square and traced the lines on the sides.

Once I cut the holes for the spars, I plugged the wings in as far as they would go
(until the bolts touched) and marked the places for the wing bolts and dowels. I drilled
each one of those out and it went together with no problem.

Hi guys, planning on starting with the build soon, is this http://doitbest.com/shop/product.asp?mscssid=N71P1NA26QK18ME9EL8QQDEUV9VAES54&dept%5Fid=2292&sku=100599 the same stuff you used for your fuse? I just want to do it exactly like you made yours.

Sorry to ask so many questions, but would a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 engine work on this plane? If so, which prop would you recommend? I don't really care to hover, just want the ability to get her in the air and do some loops and small stuff.

toddly24, thats the gutter pipe used in almost all spads. You only need two 1" formers for this plane. Omaha just added a little more which is fine. The TT.46 with a 10x6 prop should be OK. I'm using an ASP.52 with a 10x8 and it will almost go vertical. A .60 size would probably work best for 3D and hover but you will have to move the wing foreward for it to balance and I don't know how that would effect the flight characteristics. I guess you could just try it and see what happens.

Thanks acam, I guess I got lucky, I have 5 spare 10x6 props right now. I'll be building one or two of these planes at the same time so I can have a spare. Thanks so much for this plane. It's such a good looking plane and I would really like to fly one like it. One thing, how are the flight characteristics?

Take off roll is about 25 feet and handles like any other sport spad. It's definitly no trainer, with very responsive controls. The axial rolls are great and right down the center line because of the mid wing design. And also with the fully symetrical wing it will fly upside down just as easy as up with just a slight down on the stick to keep it level. It doesn't knife edge very good because the rudder is not big enough to hold it for for very long. The landings are smooth but it does come pretty hot. I don't know the landing speed, But it is a lot faster than my debonair was and you have to learn to keep the nose down or it will stall at slower speeds. But overall it is easy to fly and anyone who has progressed beyond a trainer should be able to handle it.

Thanks, it sounds great, i just crashed my BUHOR today because of an unresponsive elevator, so it looks like I am going to have to have a replacement. I want to do aerobatics, but the Buhor wasn't the greatest. So I'm off to build an extra.

unresponsive elevator? that sounds all too familiar. That is what doomed my spad extra. I don't trust that flight pack any more so as soon as I scrape up a hundred bucks I'm getting a replacement.

Hey Guys,
It is flight ready. I stayed up late last night to finish it. I think the trim scheme
turned out really nice (took most of the time). I took photos of it today with my
35mm camera. As soon as I get the film developed I post photos. I don't think
the web cam would do it justice.

I didn't fly it today. It will be next week before I get a chance to fly it.
I'll post the flight news as soon as possible, along with the photos.

I was there when Todd crashed. It wasn't the radio gear, it was flutter. Also i dont think i will be building one of these because it just seems hard. I would have it turned out ugly.
