Status: offline 		This is a design I've been working on for a few months now and this is the final product. It is based roughly on the SIG SOMETHIN EXTRA. I took all the measurements off of the balsa plane and just transferred it to coro. I had to move the wing to get it to balance but it is pretty close to the original plane. It flies great and has no bad habits. It will do anything you would expect a sport plane to do. I do not have any plans but here are the basic dimensions and I can try to answer any questions regarding the plug in wings or the tutledeck and canopy build.The rest of the plane is your basic garden variety spad.

length: 38" from firewall to tail
wingspan: 50.75" with wings installed. each panel is 24"
tail: horizontal stab 20" vertical stab 8.5"
spar:2.5" 3.5" from LE
root chord: 15" including aileron
tip chord: 13" including aileron
engine: ASP .52
prop: MAS 10x8
radio: futaba T6XA with 5 servos
CG: LE is 7.5" from firewall balances on spar
weight: 6LBS w/out fuel
fuel tank: 10oz

I've been pondering a SPAD somethin extra for my next build. Have all the materials but was playing with design issues. Looks like you've got them figured out - and have given me somethin to shoot for.

Any chance you could post some closeup images of the fuse cutout, turtledeck area, canopy, and wing root end?

Sure is a pretty thing!

Status: offline 		I had the pleasure yesterday to fly this great plane that Acam37 built. I have been building SPADs for over two years some of my own design. I can say with out a doubt that it is the best all around plane I have flown and is the first SPAD that fly's like a real balsa plane. Great job! Acam37, I am sure this is the first of many excellent planes that you will build. Keep up the good work. See you at the field.

Status: offline 		Excellent job by the look of it, if your no good at plans (like me) what i've done is take an overhead pic, a side pic and just import them in to MS paint and wack some dimensions on the pic, thats plenty of info for guys that have built SPAD before, you may need a few other pics to show particular detailes.

Status: offline 		I walked out to the flightline and saw that "EXTRA" looking plane, I was thinking about what a sharp looking plane it was. It was then that I heard that his Spazzler had met an "untimely demise" so he built this plane, I looked closer and said: "That's... a SPAD???" It flies like it looks, and the simplicity and sheer ingenuity of the wing attachment set-up is amazing!

Hopefully, in the near future, he will be able to take some close-ups of the wing attachments and turtle deck, because it's truly a work of art.

Now all I have to do is teach him the "harrier-to-cartwheel" landing and he'll be set!

Status: offline 		I was going through my pics and found these two that may be helpful. One is the basic fuselage and gives you an idea of how I put the tail together. The vertical stab simply plugs into the horizontal stab and then is glued to the top of the fuselage. Out of all the adhesives I have used I found that (WELDER) works best for me. More pics will follow on the wing plugs but I will have to actually build another wing to show details. The ends are capped with 4 Mil coro and I can't take them off without ruining the wing.

Throttle, sure would appreciate yours and acam37's efforts to acquire as much info and what images you can provide. I want one of these in my hanger! I'm betting I'm not the only one!

Status: offline 		this is how I did the wing plugs and spar. I went with nylon bolts to hold the wing together instead of hooks and rubber bands because it holds the wing more securely against the fuselage. the spar is two pieces of 4 mil glued together with the flutes running in opposite directions. before I glued them I cut a channel out for the 1-1/4 lattice that runs through the fuselage and then glued it all together.When you put the wings together simply put one lattice spar on the front of one wing and the back of the other. Then they will join together like a finger joint. When you cut the fuselage slots for the lattice make sure the fit is tight otherwise the wings will not be stiff. To get the incidence right draw a line down the center of the fuselage and just line up the leading edge and trailing edge. then you can mark your bolt holes and rear dowl. One thing I almost forgot , the spar has to be 4 mil short on each end so that you can fit the end caps on the inside of the wing , so that will make the spar 23-3/4" instead of 24".

Status: offline 		Very nice looking plane! Now I have a new-guy-to coro question...
What the heck is welder adhesive, and where do I get it? I'm working on a couple of coroplast projects, and need a better way. I have no experience with this material, and am not impressed with the formica cement or the woodpecker-P/U glue method. Pop rivets are heavy, and staples only work in a limited number of places.

All I know is that it will do anything that the somethin extra will do and has almost identical flight characteristics. It is heavier but the ASP.52 takes up the slack. Eveyone who has flown is impressed and has silenced a few spad bashers at our club.

Nice job! What size coro did you use throughout the plane 2mm or 4mm?
On the sketch of the fin/rudder or stab you mention the control surfaces needed
to be increased. Did you increase the measurements needed on the sketch or is
that the original measurements given? What did you cover it with, sign vinyl?
