y do some people keep on pushing traxxas products? and all they have to say is about parts availability....maybe he is used to the traxxas forum where they only allow traxxas products to be mentioned on that forum ..i kno he said keep savage too which traxxas can ban him hehehe
well anyway this is expected on any new toy ...that it would break some weak points now that maybe the majority is axles/cvd at least teamlosi will kno which to improve ..actually i think its better to thank the guys who always buy these toys as soon as they come out cuz they get to test them which benefits us who buys when we kno that all bugs are solved ..man im so sleepy idk if what ive said made sense

Well first off, I might be a newbie to this forum, but I am not a 14 year old who jumps on the first truck that comes out I bought my Savage21 about two months after it came out, and I have spent a s@$t load of money into it to make it race worthy, ie; Xtm Pro, pipe, digi servos, bellcrank, ect ect... About $1000.00 u.s on top of the original price. So spending $600.00 on a new truck that will whoop the Savage out of the box kinda make sense too me. I ordered my LST today, Team Losi from my experience, gives a great customer support, and from the thread that I have been reading, they are keeping on top of things. I was fortunate enough to see the LST at the track last weekend, and had a first hand look at it. The decision to buy this truck was made a couple of months ago. I don't read the Rcmags review. I wait for the guys to put in there reviews, which is a lot closer to the truth then the RCmags.

not to dissrepect the newbie on the block.. but why spend that much on a truck when you can buy a new or used traxxas.. and upgrade it for half the price... and have a better truck that you get stock from losi?..... just wondering why you would spend that amount of cash on a new model that really has not proven itself... just my .01 cent worth.... Think about it.. before you plunk down that amount of money.. on a really "non-tested" real world truck... no matter what the engineers say or any r/c mag.

Finally had time to do some hard running. I drove my LST around the driveway a bit for break in. Today I took it out in the yard for some heavy bashing. A little info before I start, my house is built on a hill, a very steep hill at that, surrounded by a forest so I have many natural ramps, bumps, and obsicles. Our yard is clay with some grass (orignal owner didn't keep it up).
Here is my report........
Ok, I ran the truck off of my padio several times, it is about a 4 foot drop. The truck was soooo level in the air and landed with extreme authority. I have ran about every size r/c car/buggy/truck in that past and never had anything so level in the air. To get the truck back on the concrete the truck has to ram up onto about 5 inches of flat concrete. This proved to not give the truck any trouble time after time at any speed attempted. I was not pulling any punches because I want to know what the truck was made of and hope to help anyone else with any insight if possible. After a full tank of jumping off then getting back on the padio I decided it was time to tackle the big hill.
The front yard ends in a very steep hill on the side of the house and I mean steep. I ran the truck full steam from the front yard, over the crest, in the air, down the hill, then hopefully slowing enough before the forest. This is where it got interesting.... I was going along at a good clip (about full speed in the grass) and hit a bump at the crest which made the truck turn just enough to get a little sideways while it was airborne. The truck proceeded to hit and I proceeded to hit the brakes, bad idea. As sensitive as these brakes are it sent the truck into a roll which quickly turned into a carwheel. The truck rolled 3 times end over end then I counted 9 times cartwheeling (my son said 15 but I think he was mistaken) downhill not slowing until it plastered a tree. It was quite a sight.
To my amazment the truck was still running, so my son flipped it onto its lid and I drove it back up the hill then down the driveway and shut it down. I told my son it was time to check the damage. I tore the truck down EXPECTING damage and found all parts were fine with no fractures. I honeslty could not believe it.
The only potential problem I am forseeing is that rear diff does not seem as smooth as it should be. The front is much smoother. I took the diff out, opened it and the gears were visually ok but it "just don't feel right."
I must say I think Losi has hit a homer with this truck. Yes, it is costly but when you truely take the time to look over this truck closely you will appreciate the money you will NOT have to spend on hop-ups. I have had a T and E Maxx and each I have spent over (by far) what I spent on this Losi and that is not including buying a decent radaio for the Maxxs (which the Losi comes with a sweet radio). Anyway if anyone has any questions lemmie know if I can help.

My only regret with this truck is....I wish my wife would have had the vid camera so I could post a video of my tumble in the MGT board. LOL

I've now got just over a gallon through my LST. This last Saturday, I went to a nearby construction site to really give the LST a supreme beating. I seriously beat the living crap out of it. I normally have some respect for my r/c, but this time I went all out, there wasn't anything that I wouldn't try. I figured "what the hell", I'm basically a beta-tester for this truck anyway since I have one from the first batch, and my LHS has a pretty good selection of replacements already.

I probably crashed the thing a good 30 or 40 times, and I was hitting piles of dirt at full speed and reaching 10-15 feet of air pretty regularly. I came down to earth in every possible angle there is. I really was actually trying to break the truck just to see what would happen. After several hours of extremely heavy bashing, my truck stopped moving. It would rev up but go nowhere, and it happen right after a really bad landing. I figured the day was done, the LST is finally broke, I must have stripped a tranny gear. I took it home and removed the tranny and disassembled it to find nothing was wrong! It turns out that the high/low selector had somehow got stuck inbetween high and low, so the gears weren't engaging.

Tally of broken parts to date:

- 2 a-arms. Both on the front right of the truck. ($10 for 4)

- 1 snapped turnbuckle, replaced with a Tmaxx turnbuckle. (already had one)

- Glue came loose on all 4 tires, had to re-glue each one. (already have CA)

- Stripped steering knuckle, the turnbuckle screw kept popping out so I replaced it with a longer screw and it held fine since. (already have extra screws in tool box)

- 1 completely trashed body. It's crinkled, ripped, and crushed, and the body mount holes are all cracked up. (haven't replaced yet)

- 2 stripped slipper clutch nuts. These nuts are cheaply made, they strip very easily. They are the exact same nuts that hold the shocks on. (swapped them out with shock nuts)

- Chewed up pinion gears. The metal ones on the crank are in pretty bad shape, they have many nicks and dents in them, but my plastic spurs are still in pretty decent shape! (Haven't replaced since they still work........for now)

THAT'S IT! I gave this thing a primo beating, my hopped-up Tmaxx would have been broken times over if I did the same things to it! It has cost me a total of $10 to keep it running through all that I've given to it. My $1000+ Tmaxx wouldn't have been able to take that beating.

So far I'm super impressed, and the truck is faster than a 2.5 Tmaxx (I drag raced one several times) It's quicker off the line and even has 2 or 3 MPH more than a Maxx on top. It handles great, and has been very durable so far, but RPM needs to get on the ball and make some a-arms for it.

No. I didn't have a matching nut for the long screw. I just used the screw and clipped off the extra that was hanging out.

the damage is huge up near toronto. I asked a hobby shop last night and he said "they are not even out yet" Looks like losi lost some sales up in canada. I would say 1% of their sales has been lost lol

Not much that I can add to this damage report except that I will need a new body. After a gallon of fuel and jump after jump, I can say this is the best, most durable RTR Monster Truck that I have ever owned and ran! I have had things break within less than a gallon running a new out of the box RTR T-MAXX & new out of the box RTR Savage. After so much of tumbling on its lid, the LST body has lasted pretty good for being a heavy weight 13lb truck. The only real (self) damage that I have had is the manual cylinder HI/LO gear knob on the tranny case breaking its keyed teeth. Turned it so hard and the teeth snapped. My idiot self forgot to lift up before turning. Oh yeah, I also I have scuffed up body posts which may need to be replaced soon. But the real damage that Ive had running this truck is the standard 5" size MT wheels that I have been running with. Decided to keep my LST stock wheels stored for later use and use my T-MAXX aftermarket wheels. Broke 2 sets from jumping already. I guess these standard MT rims are no match for this heavy truck. Then again they are not LST wheels that came with the truck. Has anybody had breakage problems with the stocks or 40s wheels from pro-line mounted on the LST? What about RPM wheels?

TIP: To some of the folks breaking or missing a CVD pin, one trick that I have found that works great and costs less than a CVD rebuild kit is cutting a steel drill bit in the size of the pin. Use a dremel to cut the end of a drill bit (the end that is insert into the drill) in the size of a CVD pin. Titanium bits work best. Individual bits are a few dollars (if that, under a $1) at a hardware store and the best thing is you dont have to wait for your LHS to order them. They are available now! Chances are you already have them in your tool collection!

UPDATE:

I have grown to HATE hex-head bolts with a quickness! This entire truck is built with those crappy things. I originally thought this was a good thing, but I have quickly changed my mind! I'd take phillips heads over them anytime!

I've went to several places looking for hex drives in the correct sizes with no luck, so I'm stuck using those crappy allen wrenches that came with the truck. This has resulted in several stripped bolts on my truck as well as mucho grinding on the stupid allen wrench for a good surface.

I realized that the metal chassis brace under the engine is broken after my last outing. I was gonna JB weld it back together but I can't get it off! I stripped one of the tiny bolt heads trying. What's worse is now my tranny is stuck on my truck because of one of those stripped bolts too!
And on top of that I had to drill out a stripped tranny case bolt which resulted in a gapping whole in my tranny case!

AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! These things SUCK!! I HATE these hex head bolts!!!!

Now my truck is stuck together in it's broken state, and I can't get it apart to fix it!!!

Shame on you LOSI!!!!

EDIT:
I have officially retracted this comment . Losi hex drives make all the difference!

Dude get yourself a nice set of wrenches... Dynamite and Losi makes all sizes in Metric and Standard. I have the Dynamite ones in metric for my savage, works like a charm
