Does anyone use any of these additives? RCM's engine clinic says add up to 10% gasoline to an engine running in a cold climate: http://www.rcmmagazine.com/e/env/0001-520565-284375108-212113566-31958-0Y8p2/contentpage.html?link=/framepagesecure.html&item=aug2002:r-cl-enc-082002-1
ACETONE has a higher btu value, but wont the engine run hotter? Anyone have any experiences with this stuff?

Acetone has a higher BTU/pound (heat energy) than methanol but the fuel/air ratio is around half that of methanol. So you end up burning half as much of a slightly better fuel. Acetone is only used because of other properties it has. It changes the way that methanol itself burns and it reduces the ability of methanol to suck water out of the air.

If you want more details on various fuels then have a look at http://www.holdfastmac.com.au/techfuels.html

In cold weather, it might be beneficial to add some COLEMAN fuel to your glow fuel. This is basically lighter fluid(NAPTHA), but is a lot cheaper than buying lighter fluid. Usually, 2% or 3% will aid starting and run better in cold weather. The NITROMETHANE in the glow fuel lets the COLEMAN fuel mix with the methanol. A lighter fluid dispenser will aid in putting a few drops in the venturi for priming. The COLEMAN fuel will also help to free up the engine for easier cranking or flipping in cold temperatures.

Gasoline is about 60% naptha. The rest is a mixture of heavier and lighter distallates. If you compare gasoline to Coleman's gas you will notice that auto gas is very slightly oily. Methanol will mix with gas and Coleman's just fine. In fact that is what is in a can of gas deicer. Gasoline has a higher BTU value and as a result burns at a higher temperature. This is what you want in the winter as it heats the engine up. Don't do this in the summer!

Coleman's is more pure. Having a problem with my lawnmower. Apparently the gas I bought this spring is cloging up the carb jet. Considering using Coleman's to clean it up, though I probably will try a left over can of Gumout first.

I read in the posted website:
. . . Usually a 10% acetone/90% alcohol blend is all that is required for this purpose, although much higher percentages of acetone may be blended if desired. . .
So, ACETONE will increase power while, giving you better fuel economy, and 10% will not kill my engine?

That extract was actually from the text of the book dealing with full size 2 strokes. For our purposes about 5% is all that's needed. Acetone by itself won't give more power compared to methanol because even though it's got more heat energy you burn much less of it.

So what is the net result? Efficiency, loss in power, hotter runs?
