I have experience (mostly good) with a Sig Kouger and a GP Sportster and am wondering what would be a good warbird kit/arf to try first. I have a couple TT .46 PRO's and would like to use one of those but no retracts. ( I have a very lumpy grass field.) Thanks Randy

Randy: I don't think you could go wrong with the Great Planes .40 size Mustang kit. It builds quickly, is light and will fly like a dream with a good .46 in the nose. This is a great transition airplane and it's a tough little bugger to boot. The plans list a retract option that you can take advantage of and I have to say that the plane flies very good with fixed gear but it is outstanding with retracts. It's fairly priced too.

Hi Randy.
On the ARF side, either the Great Planes or Kyosho AT-6. $159 and $179 respectively at Tower. Great looking planes, easy to build and easy to fly like the trainer they were.

Yes, I built one of these planes some years ago. It was quite easy to build and was very strong. I had an OS .61 in mine and it had great vertical performance. I never had it tipstall on a landing, it would just float right in. It never did anything silly or unpredictable. It was just a great flying plane.

I finally sold it to a friend of mine who ended up trading it off or something - anyhow, the guy who has it now has a .91 in it. That plane must be 10 years old now and it is still flying! It screams with a .91 in it - really fast - just the way a warbird should fly. The first time I saw it fly with the .91 in the nose I was kicking myself for ever selling it. : You will love this plane!

Russ.

Well, here is yet another vote for the Great Planes P-51. I have 2. One is powered by an OS .65VRDF Ducted Fan Engine and Magic Muffler and the other with an OS 1.20 Surpass II. A friend has one with a Y.S. 1.40 in it. These are extreme engines for this plane but it handles them quite well also. Your TT PRO .46 will fly it fine.
