Capgains -> Is there really a savings??? (9/3/2002 10:06:44 AM)

I have been reading this thread, and the idea of making my own fuel sounds great... but is there any real savings, or are you getting the assurance of knowing just what is in the fuel. One of the earlier posts says that there is a huge savings between what he makes it for compared to the local hobby shop. After looking at several racing fuel companies on the Internet, and klotz lubricants, if I were to buy large quantities of each component, it still averages to $14.00 per gallon for 15% nitro, and 18% synthetic lube. I can buy a gallon of Byron fuel for around $12 from our local dealer. Am I missing something? I noticed that the post came from a flyer in Australia. Is fuel really expensive there, and the components are cheaper as well? Just curious, I want to know if I am looking in the right places for supplies. Dan
