I'm am fairly new to R/C Skydiving and I love it! I started out dropping a free falling 12'' GI joe with a round parachute until I saw an R/C jumper. I got to fly a friend's Kavan Junior Jumper and fell in love with it. So, I got one complete with 3 channel radio. I wasn't happy with his glide or turning capability so I bought some ripstop from para-gear, made him a larger chute, and made him new longer arms. He glides and turns quite well off of my deck and I want to try him out. My problem is that where I am currently living I do not have anyone who can fly the drop plane. Therefor, I can't fly my skydiver! I have been trying to come up with ideas around having a drop plane all together: balloons, slingshot, rocket, etc. All of them seem impractical or too expensive. Does anyone have any ideas of how to fly my skydiver with only one pilot?

Glad to hear you are excited about R/C Skydiving.
I wish I could help with your delima, but I don't have any practical ideas either.
The balloon sounds like it might work if you had a large weather balloon, but I don't have any idea how much one would lift.

for the cost of some PVC pipe, a ball valve and a tire valve, you can make something that'll launch your guy pretty high up... or pretty good horizontal distance if you like.

of course, it all depends on how fragile your skydiver is. he may not like being sent flying up and out at highspeeds.

I have the same problem. I started working on a ROCKETMAN!!!!
I am making a prototype of foam and fiberglass it to see first if it will fly!!
Attached the 1st picture of my rough cut rocketman. Measured my self and made a scale of about 1/3, only I'm not pink.

I'll keep everybody posted to the progress.

Ive not been to a field yet that didnt have a pilot who would love to try something different. Status: offline 		I have an answer that should work as long as you dont mind the fact that there will be no sky diver figure. Make a small rocket say c or D size rocket engine. with a tube big enough to fit your foil in, launch the rocket and when it gets to altitude the engine will fire its recovery stage and deploy the foil and the fuselage will act as the sky divers body with control for the chute being provide by a simple 2-3 ch radio. sure it wont look anything like an rc skydiver but should fly like one

Status: offline 		The best thing to do is find a buddy with a full scale plane. A friend of mine has a Stearman. He comes down and lands at the field and takes my jumpers up. So far 2100 feet AGL is the highest we have been. Almost 12 minutes to the ground from that height. Only problem is, it take awhile for you to see what direction the jumper is going. A 2 way radio is a must !!!

I believe we met at Joe Nall, You have the "Jumpers R Us" Super Flying King don't you?
When are you going to make one of our Skydive Rallys and show us how it's done?
We just had the one in Muncie at the AMA field two weeks ago. I sucked as usual, and crashed my plane to boot. There in one in the works for July 2005 at the SIRC club in New Albany Indiana, just across the river from Louisville KY.
Maybe you can make it.

I let a guy at work borrow it, and he said he has watched part of it, so it must work.
I don't have a DVD player yet, but it looks like I will be getting one.

By the way did you order the plastic yet, I was on their website and noticed that the one you were going to order is not a 1:1 mix like I said but somethong like 100:60 by weight.

Status: offline 		Dave -- actually very simple -- I am looking for an RC skydiver that I can carry in an existing electric aircraft I have built largely for this purpose -- I use this aircraft at airshows to perform a number of functions -- banner towing, small glider towing, candy drops, etc -- I calculate I can carry about 8-12 ozs of payload and the Junior Jumper fills that bill -- all the other RC skydivers I have explored using are too large or heavy to fit my current configuration -- didn't want to construct an entirely new aircraft just to drop a skydiver -- If you know of another RC skydiver that fits that bill, would appreciate some guidance in locating it

Status: offline 		I have wanted to market a smaller skydiver than I currently sell but I didn't know if there was a market for them. I really never have thought of the electric guys who want something for there electric planes. You sure with the radio installed there jumper is ony 12 oz.?????? Seems really light. Another problem that exist with a diver that small is it will have to be dead calm for him to work effectively. I have went the other way with jumpers, thus my Giant Scale Jumper. I mite try a "Mini" jumper we mite call it. Our standard jumper is about 2 lbs. exit weight of the plane.

Status: offline 		Dave -- actual weight is between 6 and 9 ozs -- parachute is 22"x17" if that will give you a better idea -- not sure if the weight specified includes radio, thus my 12 ozs, which should be about tops -- I think this weight would be easily handled by the aircraft I am flying for these purposes -- My guess is that this smaller jumper would not perform near as well, but I am only looking for something that would descend from about 500 feet max and could be easily operated by someone in the audience -- If you think you might build something in this arena, would be interested in trying out -- can send you a scan of the Junior Jumper specs/photo if you would like

Status: offline 		Actually I will be taking my current jumper and down sizeing him some. We have got parachutes all figured out already that fly really well. When i increased the size everything went pretty good. only small changes were needed. I would think the smaller jumper wouldn't be any more problems than that. We have got all the rest of our jumpers working really good,good forward flight and good hangtime. The standard one is really manuverable,spins out of this world. I would think a Mini jumper would handle really good. And your right about jump altitude, can't be to high because he will be about 10" tall. Kinda hard to see too high in the air. Let me work on this and come up with a "mini" jumper. If you still need one by that time by all means get in touch with me. I will post this in the "new products" section of my website www.rckydiving.com. give me a few weeks and we will see what happens.

Status: offline 		Just a small update on the micro jumper........... The body is done, the servos mounted, the head is on and we are at 3oz. doing very well i think. The suit and chute is next. The chute i have all patterns ready, bought some really small string for this chute. everything is looking good!!!

Dude! Try a kite! There are devices used to raise parachutes and other toys up the kite line after you have gotten the kiteflying, and then release at the top. At a local kitefestival, a guy was sending up a bear with a parachute. This should work well.

Status: offline 		tried that, he is too heavy for one. Plus, if it is windy enough to raise him and the kite, it is too windy to control the skydiver.
