I'm finishing up my Yellow Aircraft P-47. She will weighs in right about 25lbs and has a Zenoah G62 bolted to the nose. I have heard all of the issues about the aileron flutter and I have HS615MG mounted in the wings (not to the hatch) and the surfaces are balanced.

My question is in the other surfaces and how many ounces of torque do they each require? 1. Flaps (one each wing) 2. rudder 3. tail wheel 4. elevator (one servo, pull/pull) 5. throttle 6. retract valve.

Generally money is not a big problem, but this is going to be several hundred dollars if I must go high torque all the way around. I'm also partial to HiTech because of the value. They have always worked well for me. My thoughts are that I could use standard sport servos HS300's for the throttle and retract valve applications. Should I go with the HS605BB for the others or is that still an overkill?

Experienced warbird advice is needed. Thx.

There was an article in Model Airplane News 6-12 months ago that had a small chart on servo size to plane size. 80" airplanes called for about 80"lb torque per surface. I'm building the Yellow P-38 and am installing 645 Hitec servo's running @6v on each surface. Thats giving me 130"lb torque which is plenty. I would say if you are using the 600 series @6v then you should have no problem. Use the 645 or 9645's for the EL and RD. Piece of cake!

Oh, I forgot to mention the throttle. Get rid of the HS300. Use either a 400 series or 500 series servo. It's faster and more reliable especially on the throttle. Or you can use the Mini on both the throttle and retract. But use the hi end 81's or better. Remember that you are about to put $$$$$$ in the air and will be pissed if it crashes because of a $10 servo.
I think I've spent about $600 on servo's alone(12 for the P-38!) and that was'nt even the digitals. But you'll feel more secure later on once it's flying.
