a65l -> Top Flite P-39 CG (7/20/2004 2:04:18 PM)

I recently bought a built already flown one of these with a Super Tigre G-90 in the nose. The plans call for it to balance 4 3/16" back from the LE of the center of the wing, actually in front of the main spar. Mine balances further back, almost 5". I measured the wing chord, and it's over 15" at the center section. Most planes balance at 33% of the chord, which in this case is 5". I haven't had a chance to talk to the plane's previous owner/pilot, but obviously it flew like that. So my question is, for ya'll that own/fly these beasts, where do yours balance at? BTW, plane is laid out internally exactally like the plans call for, the only exception is a retract servo and control valve mounted foward of the throttle servo. Battery is behind the receiver.....

TIA,
Andy

Hi i havent flown a P-39 but did you balance it with the retracts in out position?

My advise is to call Top Flight or do the math. There are many web sites that aid you in finding the MAC of the wing platform and from that you derive the proper CG location. After you have determined the CG location you wish to fly at remember to balance the plane with the retracts retracted.

I have been flying mine with a OS 91 4 stroke. I balanced it per plans and it flys like a dream. I have not changed it in 2 years of flying it.

bkmust,
It flys ok with os 91? I have same engine in mine. Flys to slow. Now, I'm planing to put saito 120 in it. I have no idea it will fit in it or not.
But , 91 is small for it, Not enough power.

Thx.

a651,
I will check my T/F P-39 plans and let you know on the CG if you would like. I am going to put a RCV 90 in mine. Good luck.
