I just started construction on a new kit just released by MosquitoBite Planes, "www.mosquitobiteplanes.com". This is a very high quality, totally laser cut kit that goes together with great precision. Here are some pics. of the way it arrived and some early assembly. I regret that I lost some of the pics. I took after these due to dumb thumb on the keyboard. There is an excellent video of this plane on the website that explains far more than I could. They are comming out with a Piper Tri Pacer in about a month which I have already spoken for one.

Here is where I am now. I considered going with dual aileron servos but when I saw how simple and straightforward the included linkage was, I went with it.

The wing bones are built up with the tab on the main root spar clamped in a bench vise. I used the drill press vise you see here from MicroMark turned around with the long part toward the trailing edge. Picture one here shows the wing mounted on the fuse and the wing locking fork in place with its dowel rods locking the wing on. The locking fork is locked in place by the hatch frame. Removing the wing requires less than 10 seconds. I built the entire bone structure with it sitting in the vise, the only parts that required labor other than cutting cross pieces to length was to sand the leading edge slots in the wing tip plate at an angle because the laser does not cut at an angle.

Looks cool! Nice to see some different construction tecniques used.

I'm hoping they kit up something a bit smaller, my Ultra Stick Lite, at 75 1/2" wingspan just barley fits in the bed of my truck. Two piece wing on a big beastie like the T-Rex would be nice!

I built a T-REX early this summer. I loved it. The self jigging wing was a real treat to build. Plant the main spar in the vise and just start hanging the rest of the wing off it. Once it's all assembled, start hitting it with CA. So simple, so easy to keep true. I set a laser line generator down on the main spar at one end of the wing and aimed it down the wing to see how straight I'd managed to get it, and it was dead on all the way from one end to the other. Once the wing is skinned and covered, it is very tough. With a wing design like this, why would I ever consider ARF? This was fun to build.

It took me around 40 hours to build, and I did it over three days. Covering the plane took 6 hours more, but that's only because I went real fancy!

The first time it flew it performed beautifully. It didn't need any trimming, and because it was dead calm, flew straight as an arrow. With my Super Tigre 46, it only takes about 5 feet to get off the ground. Being a new engine that I hadn't quite gotten dialed in right, I found out that dead stick is never something to fear with this plane. I also used the default wing setup, and have no complaints.

I'm looking forward to building the Tri-Pacer when it comes out.

It seems odd that a '46 can haul an airplane with an 85" wing!

Since this plane is no lead brick, the 46 does a great job. Not sure how much mine weighs, I'll have to get a decent scale and wiegh it. The plane in the video at www.mosquitobiteplanes.com is using a 45 and does a respectable job of it.

The wing is well crafted for good lifting capabilities, so takes off with little effort.

I love my SuperTigre, but wouldn't mind trying out one of those MVVS engines one day. Maybe I'll have to see if something a little larger will make this plane stand on it's tail.

Your covering scheme looks nice, got any "close-ups"?

With that kind of wing area you could hang just about anything on the nose!

When I told Ken Charron that I was going to power mine with an OS LA .46 converted to Diesel he thought it would be overpowered. I have been stretched pretty thin here lately, I will get back on mine Tuesday.

I don't have any good close-ups other than the few shown in my gallery shots. I'll try to get some in the next few days. I don't as yet have a digital camera so relly on the generousity of others for this!

I was reminded by my father today that my dyslexia does me no favours... The Super Tigre that I use is a 45 not a 46, and the Engine on the mosquitobite video is a 46 not a 45... Ah well, close enough as no matter!

As soon as I get some close-ups of my graphics, I'll make sure I pass them on. For now, here is a shot of my beauty sitting in front of the Mosquitobiteplanes booth at a fun fly in Kingston Ontario. It's parked amongst Ken Charon's T-REX and his spashy looking Tri-Pacer. When I saw his Tri-Pacer I started drooling. The first question I asked was... When?! When can I buy one?! It's a sweet model. In the meantime, I'm happy flying my T-REX.

I know nothing at all about Diesels, and here lies a perfect opportunity to learn from the mistakes or fortunes of others!... I know that with the .45 that I'm using, more often than not, it's cruising around at a little less then half throttle. If I want the poop, it'll gladly leap away with the engine at full throttle and still handles well. I'd love to see it go with something a little stronger.

I assume that a Deisel is more fuel efficient and would have more tork, but have no idea what kind of power advantage is obtained...

Of course, I figure what the heck, if you're willing to try, do it! You could find out it's the best combination yet. Isn't that what made RC modeling what it is today? Somebody would say "I wonder what it would do with a .... (insert wild idea here!)" and suddenly a whole new fad has begun.

You really need to get back to building your T-REX and put it in the air before the flying season is over. Then again, this plane handles well off the water with floats, so will likely do great with skis as well!

Then yet again, I'm a pretty green RC modeller. Although I built and flew U control planes as a kid, and watched my father build and fly planes for 35 years, I'm no expert! I'm just crazy enough to try it once at least.

Hobbsy, do you have any photos of the completed T-Rex yet? I've been waiting to see how yours turned out. Have you flown it yet? Let us know!
