Nice install UK Guy, I even mounted the Receiver in the wing. I used a Y-cord to pull in battery power with the Elevator, so I only need to hook up two wires when I put the wing on (Rudder and Elevator). I did not make a hatch though, I just opened up a hole in the top of the wing for the Retract servo.

Forgive me, I realize I am getting on to this thread late in the game, but can someone recommend a Mosquito ARF or plans?
I am interested in something in the range of 70 to 96". Scratch building is no problem. I have quickly gone over the previous posts and did not pick out the info I needed. Doesn't mean it wasn't there, I may have missed it.
I have considered the RCM 70" plan.

Thanks
Lorne

This thread deals with the China Model Productions (CMP) Mosquito. If I had to buy one right now I'd go through a guy here in Iowa named Alex. He's out right now, but when he has them he gets $255 plus shipping. Here is a link to his site.

Thanks Dave (DVM100)

We have the same Magnum XL-52FS motors, so I will just use the same props as you. I already got the 89 mm black plastik spinners with round nose.

What about the landing speed, when you use pitch 8 ? And what RPM range do you get with this setup (idle - full speed) ??

I will make UNI-FLOW tank setup, this way I will get a constant fuel flow no matter what lie the plane has in the air. There will not be any different in tank-pressure from full to empty, and I will not get any problems with flodding of motor when fueling (especially a problem on inverted motors).

I will install my motors at 90 degres.

Maybe someone with "expert" experienced on this model, should state a summary on a nice working setup for this plane.

I was hunting for the spinners and came across a thread related to Brian Taylor's Mosquito plan. Which is slightly bigger, but thought maybe of some interest to you guys. Side thrust is discussed etc...

Hi everyone,

Thought I would keep everyone up to date with progress on my Mossie. Will post some more pics later when I've taken some.

On the Spinner front, no joy yet, asked a local engineering company how much to turn a couple of spinners from a drawing I did of the right profile. They wanted nearly £300...I said its ok thanks I'll find another way !!
I have a Spitfire Spinner that was hand made from wood and Glass Fibre.. might have a go at doing the same.

Legs and undercarriage. I have found a thread on here that mentions the DH Comet, the racer from the thirties not the airliner ! !
They mention that there are a custom made pair of legs available for them DH Comet struts. Have ordered a pair and will let everyone know if they are the right size etc or can be adapted.

Weight and Thrust.... Although I have two SC 52's up front I'm still having to put a hell of a lot of lead in the nose maybe more than 1/2 pound. And the thrust line, there seems to be a slight down thrust but can't see any side thrust built in can anyone help?... Whats the general consensus on thrust line ?

Cockpit Just to set the record straight the pics I posted of my cockpit are only the ones without the Instruments etc... the other very well made cockpit was built by a guy on another site. I posted the pics to show you guys what could be achieved.
I have made one modification though to the Canopy. I've added two blisters on the side, makes it look a little more authentic... Did this by carving a male plug out of balsa and then pushing this through a slightly larger same shape hole while heating with a hairdryer a acetate sheet. Cut them out stuck them on..

Will post loads of new pics later.

Wayne

I don't think side thrust is a problem. Mine tracks straight down the runway and doesn't have any problems when flying. As for nose weight, I have about a pound in mine, and that's with a 2000 mah Nmh in the nose. Make sure you set the CG at the fuse side, not outside the nacelle as mentioned in previous posts. I think I will take a bit of nose weight out of mine though, it is just a tad nose heavy right now.

I think my CG is at 116mm measured at the wing root right now. I'm looking to move it back a bit, should end up at about 119-120. At 116mm the plane requires a ton of elevator to flare during landing. I'll post how it flys with the CG change.

I will use a Multiplex RX-9 Synth DS IDP reciever with 2x 5-cells reciever batteries, and glow-control for the engines. That way I hopefully dont need that much extra weigth in the nose.

New pics on there way I promise....An update on the Comet legs that I said I had seen.... Don't bother...they are way too small !! Says on the box when they come they are for 1/4 1/3 scale models... should maybe read 1/9 1/10 scale they measure about 90 mm tall by about 50 wide..way too small for what we need guys!

So have ordered a pair off the Eurokit site. They now do mail order, its an Italian site and you have to keep choosing English to view the pages but there is some very good gear on there ! Ripmax in the UK are suppose to be distributors in the UK but have not seen this range in their catalogue ! Eurokit Website

Spinner Ordered... Thanks Dave you have saved the day!

Yes it is, but as usual they skip any problems. It is a good plane but read this forum for the real reviews. Watch the CG and make sure your engines are well broke in and dependable.

Hi guys,

Thank you for the update on the commet struts. I was ready to buy, you saved me the time and money.... I have an option for you. I took the idea from previous post from I think it was lozza and just made my own struts. If you go to your local hardware shop or hobby shop you should be able to find brass tubing, using 2 sizes, one fitting smoothly in the other, buy some springs at your local hardware shop and with a bit of braising and some very basic milling you can have working struts.

If anyone is interested in real details I will be happy to share. I dont have a digitial camera set up right now so no luck there. but it is easy enough to explain.

drill press is a huge help.

my 2 cents.

mine look good and work good.

mike,

Here are some updated pics of my Mossie build.

Nearly finished, Spinners on order with struts and wheels ordered from Eurokit. I intend to do the same as earlier in this forum and attach them to an aluminum bar. I'll post a drawing when I've done it.

These pics show the canopy blisters I've created, which give it a much more authentic scale look.

The markings I have chosen for my Mossie are shown below. I cut the masks out of low tack film and applied them to the Fuz. I used Sky Code letters and chose an actual aircraft from 105 Squadron RAF which took part in a daring low level raid on the Philips radion factory at Eindhoven on 30/01/43. The raid was led by the Bostons and Ventureas of 21, 464 and 487 Sqds. This was a very successful operation. Mosquitoes taking part: DZ365 GB-V, DZ372 GB-C, DZ374 GB-X, DZ370 GB-Z, DK296 GB-G, DK336 GB-P, DK338 GB-O, DK367 GB-J. S/L R.Reynolds leads three Mosquitos to Berlin. This raid was to disrupt Nazi Party celebration. Reichsmarschall Goering was to address a rally at 11.00am. The Mosquitos of Reynolds/Sismore (DZ413 GB-K), Gordon/Hayes (DZ372 GB-C) & Wickham/Makin (DZ408 GB-F).The Mosquitos attacked right on time. This held up Goerings speech for over an hour.
09&10/07/42; This was 105 Sqds. first Oboe operation (with 109 Sqd.). It was led by S/L Bill Blessing/F/O G.Muirhead (DK333 GB-F) with F/O W.Humphrey/F/Sgt.E.Moore (DZ485 GB-W). Gelsenkirchen was successfully marked for the main bomber force.
(Sorry about the history lesson)

The sky tail band is usually associated with Fighter command but think it looks good so I added it. There are reports of Mossies wearing this band so hopefully I can get away with adding it on mine.

the aircraft Identity Number DZ365 was printed out on to water transfer paper I got for my Inkjet Printer. All you have to do to get a transparent backing is give the print a few coats of Polyurethane varnish before you submerge it in water.

Final pics to come soon.
Have had to put at least 3/4 lb of lead up fron so far !!
Engines running ok, can't wait to get her to the airfield for a test flight.
