Hi Chris
I do have all the moulds for this plane.Just wings are foam core.I could not find a half decent size Mosquito,so I had to scratch one from plans. Estimated weight around 50lb.

Fed-Ex deleviered a Jet Hobbies Mosquito today, unfortunately it had been bent in half and punctured/impaled by a fork lift. I refused to accept it and is temporarly lost some where in the system/universe. According to J.H they have fixed the wing problems, since the thing is so tail heavy I'm trying the 4-stroke low profile RCV 58. Bob

Having some difficulties with jet hobbies. I returned the old kit Mosquito for replacement with the new kit over 3 weeks ago and have not received the new one. Now they won't respond to my emails. BEWARE!

Jerry,
I'm building a 1/5.4 DH SeaHOrnet, about 100 inches with built up wings. I like the idea of foam cores since these wings require lots of ribs. What king of foam, cutting system, spars did you use for such a large wing?
I have some pictures of the Hornet in my webpage.

I have cut foam wings for about 15 years now. Built up wings are too fragile. My buddy and I have CNC foam cutter, this makes it some easier. What kind of styrofoam do I use? High density white foam. Sheeted with 1/16 balsa and 1/2 oz glass over top. Compared to theblue or any other, they are too heavy. Spars, I use aluminium flat bar about 1/8 by 1/2 or 3/4 inch wide depending on the size of the wing. If you need any more info. Would be glad to help. Here are pics of some of my planes.

Thanks for the info Jerry, I think I'm going to build a foam cutting machine to start experimenting. I'll Email you with some questions when ready.
Those are awesome looking airplanes you built

Check and see it the main spar is plywood, or balsa....The new ones are plywood, all of the spars should be plywood.

Mossi,

Awesome looking Moosquio. The fuse and nacelles are glass? Are the glass parts obtainable?

Keep us informed on its progress..it will be incredible.

Mosquito came today, very nice, good service from jet hobbies, they even sold me a Transcall really cheap for waiting. Started building, after looking it over the only minor problem I saw was the lack of any type of adhesive on the bottom glass to plywood frame. The top has the sh-- glued out of it. Spars, the whole enchalada is plywood. This thing is nice, much better than anything Ive got from great pains. Bob

I'll try to fly the new Mosquito in another few days, I had to mess with it a little, used a single flap servo in the center section, hidden elevator pushrods, throttle servo mounted on firewall, servos mounted behind nose, XLS Magnum 36's Kyosha DC-3 landing gear, Tatone hidden mufflers, 4-40 hardware, robart hinges ect. Even with everything cramed in the nose, it was still tail heavy. The spars, at least in mine, were well glued on one side, but actually had about a .125 gap on the other, I mixed micro balloons/epoxy to adhere the spars to the glass. Bob

I've got mine now too. It has the ply reinforcements and the optional retracts. On first impressions it looks pretty well put together, I've picked over it and there doesn't seem to be any horrors. I'm going to go for 2x OS 46LA's in mine (mostly cos I have two lying around!). I'll post some pics once I get started.

Regards
Scott

Hi Rich,

They were in the kit when I got it, an offer from the store where I bought it. They're mechanical but they seem fairly substantial. Apart from the manufacturer wanting you to screw them into the (ply?)wood they should be ok.

I'm going to fit a pair of Robart Air retracts made for the DC-3 as the full scale mossie had a twin strut configuration. I will probably do a black bottom, invasion striped version. Twin OS 52 4-bangers should sound great. Only problem is it's 3 planes down the line. I finally did receive the replacement kit with plywood center spars but they look really THIN!

I tried to install a set of Robart DC-3 Retracts, they look nice but do not retract all the way into the nacelle, neither does the DC-3. So if you do not have a set already, let me know, you can have this one cheap. I am using Spring-Aire retracts with Oleo Struts, they retract all the way into the nacelle. Tried to fly my Mosquito yesterday, had engine trouble, left engine didnot run consistent, and I had a bad rudder servo (it would not hold center). Will try again in a few days.

One hint to all you Mossie pilots. The best way to keep her going straight on the take off roll is to hold full up elevator until you see her starting to get light on the wheels, then get into the right rudder as you let the tail come up. Keep her going until she's reached sufficient flying speed and ease back on the elevator. Mine has a 93" span and weighs close to 40 pounds, flying on two G-23's. She's a bear to get off the ground, but once up and flying, she is a ball to fly. I land with about 30 degrees of flaps and stay on the throttles until I cross the threshhold of the runway. I'll post an image of the aircraft after I post this.
