I fly on a grass field, and I am sick of the mechanical retracts breaking, what are the best mechanical retracts for the mossie? I have seen 3dfx retracts mentioned. I am also considering just installing the supplied fixed gear that came with the kit. any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I use the "old" version of these
http://www.3dxhobbies.com/Mechanical_Retract_Main_Gears_2_PC_SET_p/buz4060.htm

The new one should soon be ready.

I have also bought a pair of these

Thanks for the information, the struts look nice http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=F-ASM-CSS01&Category=010 . Are they for fixed or mechanical retracts? I could not get a closer look than the picture allowed. I am not to experienced with landing gear issues.

Thanks again

They are for mechanical or air retracts, and actually made for these

http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=F-ASM-ARS01&Category=010

I don't think they are stronger then the ones from 3dxhobbies, I only bought them to get more scale like ones..

Just maidened my CMP Mosquito over the weekend. Great flying machine. Set up: OS 46FX(2), Robart spring down 510's air retracts, CG 116mm from LE at fuselage (had to put almost 1.5 lbs of weight in the nose to balance it), Futaba 9CAP (twin engine trim premixes per instructions at Futaba-rc.com instructions). Only thing I did not like was the stock tanks allowed for only about 5-6 minutes of flight time. Expect that will improve when the engines break in fully. The Robart 510's are pretty sturdy units, easily handle 12-15 lbs warbirds. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJZD2&P=0

Just to make sure....the ASM struts for the DH88 Comet are way to big for the Mossi...so don't buy

In your 11/04 post you discussed how well the plane flew. Are you still flying the Mossie with 32's for power?? How about what retracts did you use?? Lastly is your Mossie a Nitro Planes kit??
Thanks

Go with 46AX's, I did and I am happy with the choice, Plenty of power. The mossie hauls at half throttle. I fly off a grass field and need the extra power for lift off. If you have a pavement field then 32's would work fine. I also reccomend that you get robart retractable gear as mentioned in some other threads. I had normal retracts in and on almost every flight on landing I side would buckle and break, I eventually went to the FIXED landing gear that came with the kit due to the grass and uneven ground I was landing on. I also would put in larger fuel tanks than 6oz if you go with the 46AX's.

Hi Bo

I've not got round to flying mine yet as I've just got hold of a pair of ASP FS 61's which I plan to fit very soon.
Most of your problems will probably listed in the past posts, but what are they anyway?

Regards Tony

Here's mine. Excuse the low quality photos, I was using my phone. Cant say I really enjoyed putting it together. The paint finish is crap.....look at it and it falls off. I do hope it flies better than I think it will.

Regards
Scott
