Mind if I cut in? I now have one of these things. It'll be my third twin. I know it's probobly in the thread somewere, but were are you guys getting the spinners? They look quite scale.

For the guys looking for a Mosquito to build from a plan, can I recommend the Ivan Pettigrew plan.

74" wingspan and electric powered with retracts.

Mine is fitted with a pair of brushless motors and is powered from 2 x 2100mAH 3S lipos packs which give 10 - 15 mins flying time.
She weighs 90oz which gives a wing loading of 15oz/sqft and makes the plane unable to tip stall without using washout.

Take offs are no problem from deep grass which goes almost up to the nacel / wing joint.
Handles really nicely.

Had my first engine-out with my Mossie on Sat. It was actually "uneventful". I was zipping along in level flight when an engine died. I had enough speed and altitude that I wouldn't have noticed the engine out except for the sound. I even turned towards the dead engine (before I knew which one was dead), but I had it at idle at the time.

Anyone know where I can find a manual for this plane? I sort of "inherited" this plane without one. PDF would be nice.

ORIGINAL: rifraff

well i maidened my mossy today and all i can say is wow she flew amazingly well, started the motors up had some isues with my gyro it made my the rudder twitch so i had to remove it,i started down the runway didnt have any ground handling issues so i throttled up as i reached three quarters throttle she was going pretty fast and all of a sudden she shot at a 40 degree angle from the ground, made me jump i leveled off increased speed and alltitude so i could start triming,it neded some down trim to make her fly level and she was very touchy on the elevator wich indicates to me a little tail heavy, thats the only trimming i did everything else was perfect.
when i had to land i tried the flaps and she balloned up on me, i have to mix in some down elevator with flaps no biggie,i lined her up throttled back and got her on a nice glide slope adjusting descent by using throttle and got her down on a three point landing, when i shut the motors off i realized i was shaking with exicetment, well enough chit chat check out the pics forgot my video cam this morning so all i have is stills

I hope this doesn't come across as offensive in anyway - but the anhedral on your model, to my mind, kinda ruins the look of the Mosquito. Why do ARF manufacturers do this?

I realise that this model is not scale but even still why do manufacturers of ARFs always insist on removing such obvious points about an aeroplane's character?

jamieduff1981 dont worry about it, i did notice the enhedral but it dosnt bother me after all it is an ARF and they just mass produce them that way if i wanted it perfect i would have built a kit, but i dont have the time or the skills to start glueing sticks together haha, plus the guys at the field noticed it too and i told them it was an optical illusion and told them to get really close and they dont see it anymore haha

good luck and happy flying

I thought mine looked like I had Anhedral, but I put a ruler across the wing and it is straight across, with dihedral on the bottom surface. It is actually a bit of an optical illusion (at least on mine). That is not to say that the real Mosquito did not have a bit more Dihedral than this model.

I used P-51 spinners, and they look pretty good.

OK, almost done! So what's the "magic" C.G. number? I was going to go with 115mm like the book shows. Good starting point? Mine will need the battery moved to the back. I thought this thing would need nose weight for sure..

11.25 lbs with GMS .47's by the way... No time for a test flight before my clubs War Birds over Pueblo event. Just gona' have to do it Saturday morning.

I'd say 117mm back, but at the FUSE, not at the outside of the pods as the book shows. I can't believe you will have to move the battery back, I would not recommend you fly it without double checking the CG. I put the battery in the nose (2000mah Nimh) and still had to use 8 oz. of weight with OS.46AX's.

Yeah, mine also has a tone of lead in the nose, in addition to a pair of battery packs.

Measure the CG at the fuse, then the given ~115mm is fine.
