Smurfjet, did you get any of the accessories with the kit, like the sliding canopy, hard points, drop tanks, etc? My only problem is that in one of the kits the canopy was way to thin in the front area and very brittle . Had to replace it Does your instructions tell you where those weird two pieces of wood go that comes in the kit? They look like some type of former, but could not find a place they fit. I think they are for another kit and some how got included in the Mustang kit. The mystery continues.
Will be loading up the Nosen Mustang today to take to the Veteran's parade in Columbus, Ohio tomorrow. I feel it a privilidge to have it on the float for the Tuskegee Airmen. This will be the third time it has been used as such. What a great time I have being around the all the Vets. This time Columbus will be honoring Lima co. that has just arrived home form Iraq. I hope I get the chance to shake some of their hands and thank them personaly.
Good Day
Gary

Hi Gary,

I'll have a look at the instructions about those pieces. Do you have a pic of what they look like? I'd be happy to have a look. I'm thinking they may have to do with the original two piece fuse, where it goes together but not sure. My canopy looks to be nice and thick. I haven't even pulled the celefane off it yet. The only thing I think I'm missing is the "door" for the big scoop in the "doghouse" under the plane in front of the tailwheel. Was your exhaust stacks made up of two pieces per side? I have some very nicely molded stacks, but it appears they are missing the cover that would go over them. I did get the hardpoints for the wing but not the drop tanks or sliding canopy. There's a guy in germany that is making the droptanks though for the mustang. I have his info somewhere.

Dino, yea your Spit was (IS) one of the best looking and sounding spits around. At least Brian will let you take her up when you come out to Denver. Jeff Q. has come into a Fiberclassics Spit recently and we hope to have both of ours in Denver this comming summer. What ya think about getting all three up at the same time......should be fun. Hope your planning on attending again this year....

Dave

Dave, My exhaust stack covers are one piece clear vacumm formed plastic. There were no stacks in my kit. I am using a set from a Yellow Spiltfire kit. they seem to be the right size. Ziroli has some drop tanks that work with his 98" Mustang. I have a set here, but no hard points and actuators. I am allmost out of channels with all the dodads on my Mustang. With the remote lights and operiating canopy, not to mention radiator door. I did recieve the door in the kit. but the mentioned top glass was not there. said it would be tqped in side fuse. LOL I bought Dino's accessories with his cockpit kit, and it has the radiator door, both inside and out. I used the inside part and used the supplied door outer skin. His kit has a lot of neat pieces to really bring it to life. Little molded scoops and light lenses, and trim tab push rod exit covers, wheel well pieces and inner door panels for the rear doors and interrior panels for the read gear. I have not installed all this as of yet. I will get to it soon as I have all the hard ware, and all the electronics installed.
Oh, here is the photo of the wood piece I was talking about. There are two of them. They are lazer cut and has lazer drilled holes in it also. I figure it may have been for the exhaust. I still think it was meant for another kit. Things that make you go HMMMMMM.

Tobbe did you have to cut the bottom of the cowl to get the zdz100 in? It looks like a perfect fit! Could you post some more pics of the motor to show how well it fits inside the cowl?
P51Savage

I'll have to take out some for the fontsparkplug. I mounted the engine yesterday, will post some pictures later on

Gary,

That is an interesting looking piece....not the one I was thinking of. I think you are correct that it's not a part of this kit. I am missing the stack covers then. I'll order a set from CompArf today. Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if I was missing them or not. I'll also get the accessory kit from Dino. The hard points I got are made of the same material as the stacks. A lightweight type of foam. They are the same material as the stacks on my spitfire. Once painted and weathered they should look great. Thanks again for your "online" build. I'll be using a lot of what you posted in my build.

Dave

Dave, feel fortunate, I did not get any of those part with my kit. I see you even have the gun barrel ports and antenna mast also. Man sure wish you could still get those hard points. Make a mold and sell them to all of us. LOL

Absolutly, It would not take much to make a small mold. If you trust me, send me one and I will make it . Also that pitot tube looks cool to. I forgot I have to make one of those also.
Shoot make molds of all of them.

Well now, the rx switch and air nozel mount behind the rear hatch is complete.
I first made a trip over to Sears and picked up a new contour gage. Cost about ten bucks. Then as the photo shows, I used it to get the contour of the fuse side by the hatch door. You can then either make a female or male pattern from this tool. The next photo shows one of the switch deck supports alredy made. All you do is trace the outline onto the wood and presto, there it is. The support will fit right into the curve of the fuse. I first used cardboard to make a trial fit template and also to see where the switch plate would go in relationship to the hatch opening. After sorting that out I tacked glued one support in place and then held the switch plate against it and marked where the plate would be glued to the support. I then transfered the measurements to the second support and then permentantly glued both supports to to the switch plate. I then tacked glued the assembly into the fuse with thick CA. After I was satisfied that I could get to both switches and was able to connect a charge cable into either switch with out interference, I then glassed the unit to the fuse. the final photo is of the assembly right after I had finished glassing it in.
It will be Friday before I get back to it due to the Veteran's parade tomorrow. Do not forget to thank a Vet for our freedom. If you are a Vet, Thank you from me.
Good Day,
Gary Webb

Sorry to interrupt.. Hey Dave.. look, our Spits are sister ships ! Both from the Polish 317 squad.

[ Grin] How did that happen ?? lol Put 3 more flights on Tuesday....

Dino: Your dad's Spit is what made me build this FC Spit years ago. I still have the Model Airplane News with his plane on the cover { from Top Gun }.

Gary : I look foward to seeing your Mustang fly..... you always do good work ! Hey.. I have the FC video.. shows a Mustang being molded up. Very cool. Also shows all the planes flying.. you ever see it?

Man .. I goota get in the shop.. you guys are so motivated !

Anybody know where to get another "correct" Spit spinner ? I might try a 2 blade prop next year.
