Thanks Gary,

I will take some pics for you, maybe this week.

Mark

It's for shure Wabo not Habo I was a bit tired when I got home yesterday. Sorry to say that the Robartretracts didn't
work. I had a groundloop witch broke both backblocks. I don't think they barely stand for a normal touchdown. So
either you go for Wabo or you have to change the blocks, I have seen blocks in alu sold by Sierra.

Thanks Tobbe.

Sorry to hear you had problems

Do you mean that the wooden mounting blocks in the wings pulled out?? Or the retract units themselves broke???

I'm building up a list of parts to buy and the retracts are causing the biggest problem! I am not sure which ones to go for!

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark
Excuse me for my not so good english, I dont have the correct words when it comes to specific parts.
It's the plastic backplates in the retractunit that broke( I should have figured that out) . They are of some kind of plastic and so ligthened that can't possibly wihtstand the pressure. I did a fieldrepair of it with a aluprofile + filled the cavity with 24 hour epoxi mixed with milled fibers. I haven't tested it yet due to bad wether but they feel alot more rigid. I have made some fast taxiruns and she behaves alot better.

Thanks Tobbe, look forward to the photos. I hate to re-engineer something when someone else has already been there done that. LOL.
Sierra does sell replacement blocks out of aluminum. Does your retracts pull your wheels up alright? What control valve are you using? I built a Nosen mustang using the Robarts with metal wheels and the UP2 valve and they would barely pull the gear up. Had to install larger air cylinders to make them work.

First flight is done, she flys steady as a rock nice and sensitive. Gary, you are right about the retracts I have to either change to lighter wheels or have to change the retracts. Robart retracts do not take the weight. Mark, Idars Waboretracts worked without problem. Both of us has the UP-2 system. I also have UP-4 to retract the tailwheeldoors

Tobbe,

Congratulations on the test flight! She looks great!

Do you know how scale the Wabo retracts are? If you change your retracts would you change to Wabo or Sierra Precision retracts? Do yo know if the Wabo retracts fit the wing without modifying it???

Sorry for all the questions!

Rgds,
Mark

Thanks,
The Wabo is pretty much scale, I would go for Wabo witch the wing is already made for. The Sierraretracts look great but I only have seen those on their site. About my gearsituation I'm going to stick with robart and order a cnc backplate from Sierra combined with a set of lighter wheels. My next winterproject will be a swedishmade 1/4 scale allcomposit Mustang, and it will have electrical screwjackretracts already built in the wings. There are going to be pics on the buildingprocess later this year.
Best regards
Tobbe

P.s a tip for the Paul Haller tailwheelunit, remove the steeringsprings and see to that you have a tight fit for the steering. If you use the springloaded original you going to experince some nasty groundloops(I did!!! it cost me a new prop)

Some asked for building photos as I constructed the Composite ARF. Attached are photos of the tail gear assembly before I install it into the plane's rear fuse. This is using the Sierra retract tail unit. I made a floor using the supplied floor and vertical former as patterns. I plan to make two hatches. One for service to the retract unit and the other to service the servo. I feel one long hatch might cause to much flexing in the fuse bottom during landings.
