Yes, Engine mount has been made and installed with cowling. See photos. I have pinned the extention box with 1/8" wooden dowels. I had to grind away some of the engine mount on the top engine tabs to allow for a scocket to tighten the 1/4-20 X1/2" bolts. I would rather use hex head bolts than allen head bolts to secure engine. The pictures were taken before pinning. I wanted to make sure everything was going to line up before going any futher. I may cut lightening holes in side of box later. I will be installing a sliding canopy and the added weight of the acutator behind the CG may call for weight up front. I will finalize the exhaust system when flex tubing arrives. The exhaust will exit the through the bottom of fuse. I am having trouble contacting Pro builders for the canopy frame. I would guess they have evauated the area due to the huricane. If you are back please let me know so I can call you.

Gary,

Coming along well!! Keep posting the updates!! Are you pleased with the kit (taking into account the fact you knew what work would be involved??)

Mine turns up next week

Which spinner is that? Is it a scale outline or close to scale do you know??

BTW, have a quick peek at my site www.composite-arf.co.uk for some nice looking Mustangs and info!

Rgds,
Mark

It is just a shell, great looking one at that. You have to engineer everything into it and the wing ribs are not in the same place in each panel. No drawing to speak of and thier are no drop in retracts availiable for it. The gear doors do not fit well. To narow for the opening. Then trying to line up the fire wall is very dificult. Took two of us to do it. The spinner is from Sierra precision products.
It looks very close to scale. Do not have a lot of options for a 6 1/4" spinner out there. I think once I work through all the chalenges it will be a great flying bird. Just a lot of pain. But as they say...no pain no gain.

Here is the engine mount after it has been pinned with dowels and exhaust system installed. Will use flex tubing to exit exhaust out of fuse behind fire wall former.

Nice work so far.....It is the biggest pain to build this plain isn't it? The one that my dad built had the entire wingspar in different location from panel to panel. For the record, his would have probably been pretty tailheavy if it wasnt for the scale exhaust and the associated fitting for that system. He had fuctioning canopy, rad. door, scale fuel filler behind the cockpit, lights, a full depth cockpit, and probably some more stuff I am forgetting. Of course he could have moved the batteries forward if needed. The radio equip was mounted down in the belly scoop if I remember correctly. It sure looked when he was finished though!! I don't think the molded construction saved any time at all since EVERYTHING inside had to be engineered from scratch.

My thoughts exactly. The only thing you save time on is the detail work, panel lines, rivets and hatches, not to mention the skin wrinkles.

Here are photos of the throttle, choke, and retract valve plate with servos and valve installed with control rods. This complete assembly can be removed by six screws for maintance.

Tobbe, Gary,

Any chance of taking a pic to show how much you cut away for the air scoop exit (the air exit just in front of the tailwheel)

Rgds,
Mark
